    We are seeking an experienced HVAC PRODUCT DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT MECHANICAL ENGINEER from either the RAIL OR COMMERCIAL HVAC INDUSTRY. The HVAC engineer is responsible for the design of frames, component installation, piping installation, developing the wiring and conduit installation within unitized HVAC unit for rail vehicles, in cooperation with the HVAC System Engineer and the Electrical Engineer. Mechanical design of external control boxes containing microprocessor control units, contactors, relays, or similar equipment will also be within the responsibility of the HVAC Mechanical Engineer.

     

    Responsible for all aspects of their assigned products, including design, generation of Shock and Vibration test procedures, and manufacturing, quality, purchasing and field support.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Generate component and assembly designs based on customer and internal specifications.
    • Create bill of materials and keep updated.
    • Generate and validate Shock and Vibration Test Procedures.
    • Provide manufacturing, purchasing, RAMS and quality support.
    • Qualification of mechanical engineering design, including generating shock and vibration type test procedures and reports.
    • Development of purchase specifications/requirements.
    • Generate change documentation to update engineering documents
    • Review customer specifications.
    • Monitor/assure component designs are specification compliant.
    • Support review of manuals for the Technical Publications Department.
    • Must be able to comply with quality, product safety, and HSE rules and regulations. Be energy conscious, if applicable.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasional work is performed in outside weather conditions

     

    TRAVEL is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

    ENGINEERING PRINCIPLES: BROAD EXPERIENCE AND GOOD THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE OF ENGINEERING PRINCIPLES:

    • Sheet metal design/manufacturing
    • Value engineering
    • Reliability, maintainability, safety and human factors
    • Drawings execution as per ASME Y14 Series

     

    TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE, ATTRIBUTES OR EXPERIENCE IN:

    • Must be able to clearly define requirements and expectations to others (Project Manager, Customer, Engineers, Purchasing, etc.) as well as have strong written communication skills.
    • Must be able to read a large volume of material (usually customer specifications) and ascertain the salient points
    • Manage multiple and conflicting priorities
    • Estimating costs and risk assessments.
    • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
    • Must be able to work well in a team environment both internally and with customers.
    • Must understand and practice good organization and configuration management skills, BOM structuring and Configuration/Change Control
    • Computer Competence in the following: Proficient with excel, word and PowerPoint, 3D modeling (NX), Windchill
    • Provide recommendations of developing new product lines in order to fulfill customer requirements

    Required Experience

    • 5-7 years of experience in HVAC development
    • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering

     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    • 7-10 years of experience
    • Knowledge and practical understanding of HVAC equipment and principles
    • Hands on experience with mechanical systems
    • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems
