Health Benefits is seeking a Senior Underwriter. The key purpose of this position is to provide underwriting support for a medium complexity new business prospects and RENEWAL SELF-FUNDED CLIENTS SPECIFICALLY IN THE STOP LOSS AREA.  This position works collaboratively with stop loss carriers to maximize account retention and new business sales by obtaining the best possible rates for the client or prospect.  Internally this position works closely with client management, sales, healthcare management, managed care, proposal team, and claims.  This position also provides support to the underwriter.  Externally this position interacts with brokers and stop loss carriers.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Develops and maintains strong relationships with stop loss carriers to negotiate best possible terms for clients to maximize Health Benefits account retention and renewal increases.
• Partners with client management, sales, and brokers to address clients concerns and issues regarding stop loss for both renewals and new client business.
• Provides support to underwriter to help mentor, guide and answer more complex questions on cases.
• Manages underwriting work for medium complexity clients/prospects.
• Completes renewal activities including downloading and running reports, completing LCM grid and forwarding the grid to healthcare management for completion, compiling complete package for stop loss carrier including SPDs and SBCs, and submitting the package to the applicable carriers.
• Reviews issued stop loss carrier policies to ensure accuracy before delivery to client manager and client.
• Spreadsheets stop loss competition/options and makes appropriate carrier selection recommendations on medium complexity cases.
• Maintains historical data including quote spreadsheets, stop loss data, and historical client information in designated folder.
• Other duties as needed/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Minimum 3 years Underwriting experience
• Proficient in MS Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Analytical skills including the ability to make recommendations
• Ability to problem solve and think outside of the box to create customized solutions
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, along with all levels of the organization
• Keen attention to detail including accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency
• Ability to shift priorities and focus on new task or challenges as needed
• Ability to gain trust and negotiate
