    Position Overview: The Meat Cutter ensures the store’s meat department operates at the standards set by the company, driving sales and maximizing profitability. The Meat Cutter delivers the highest level of customer service and satisfaction by following the company’s meat merchandising plan and trimming /preparing standard cuts of meat as outlined in the Meat Cutter Resource Manual. The Meat Cutter demonstrates excellent teamwork, interpersonal skills, and commitment to the success of the team.

    Responsibilities:

    Works under the direction of the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, and follows guidance from the Meat Specialist.

    Leads the performance of the meat department to achieve and exceed metric goals.

    Manages product ordering, merchandising, productivity, and shrink control to meet company and business unit goals.

    Coaches and trains others performing meat-related tasks within the department.

    Sets work priorities and assigns individual tasks within the meat department.

    Enforces meat policies and procedures within the assigned store.

    Uses knives and power equipment to cut and package beef, pork, and poultry items according to company policies.

    Updates displays and case signs appropriately to present meat attractively for sales.

    Maintains proper date rotation for both dated and undated products in display cases and storage coolers.

    Prepares and places meat cuts and products in display counters to appear appealing to customers.

    Wraps, weighs, and prices cuts of meat.

    Labels packages in compliance with COOL, USDA, and company standards.

    Receives, inspects, and stores meat upon delivery to maintain the cold chain and ensure quality.

    Ensures daily sanitation and quality standards are met and adhered to according to company policies.

    Follows and executes all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to COOL, Food Safety, Sanitation, Meat/Produce Scale operation, Markdowns, Inventory Processes, Meat POGs, Meat Cutter Resource Manual, Daily Manager Signoff, and Meat Cutting List.

    May handle additional perishable and non-perishable duties to maintain optimal store performance.

    Protects company property, funds, and merchandise.

    May be assigned to work in more than one store and in other areas of the store.

    About You:

    Must be 18 years of age

    High School diploma or equivalent required

    One year of previous experience cutting meat, including using hand tools and power equipment such as knives, slicers, grinders, cubing machines, and power saws, preferred

    Company work history will be strongly considered, including attendance, work performance, safety, policy compliance, and performance management

    Proficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

    Must be able to read, write, and speak in English; demonstrate effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Language proficiency in Spanish or other languages is a plus

    Must be dependable and flexible, with a willingness to work in other areas of the store as needed, with little or no advance notice

    Excellent customer service, teamwork, and problem-solving skills

    Must adhere to uniform dress code

    Physical Requirements:

    Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment with a standard temperature of 38-45 degrees.

    Requires the ability to reach, bend, twist, balance, lift, and transport various objects weighing up to 30 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift; product weight may occasionally reach 100 pounds.

    Requires the ability to move heavy products with assistance.

    Must have the ability to stand, walk, and move about for extended periods of time.

    Requires the ability to push, pull, grasp, and use sawing motions for extended periods of time.
