    Job Description

    We’re looking for a person-centered, collaborative direct service provider to join the Ground Up team as a full-time resource for our training program. This is not your traditional HR position; this is a rather unconventional role for an unconventional company. You will be responsible for some traditional HR duties such as hiring and onboarding, as well as providing our employees (womxn overcoming adversity) with support and resources to help them overcome whatever obstacles they are facing. This is a unique role for a social service worker to apply their skills at a small and fast-growing social enterprise. At Ground Up, our team is our #1 priority, so this is a crucial role.

    About Us:

    Ground Up PDX is a small-batch nut butter company that employs womxn overcoming adversity to provide them with job skills and training to get back on their feet. Through our 6-9 month training program, womxn gain the confidence and skills to move on to their next phase of life. We produce peanut-free, honey-sweetened nut butters in flavors such as Cinnamon Snickerdoodle. Our products are sold in New Seasons, Whole Foods, Fred Meyer, and other PNW retailers. 

    As our Employee Support Manager, you will be a leader who is a key part in cultivating team culture at Ground Up and builds trust with the womxn on our team. You will be working closely with Ground Up’s co-founders, Operations Manager and Production Manager to ensure all of Ground Up’s personnel are equipped to do their job to the best of their ability. This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) role based in Portland, Oregon. 

    Responsibilities include:

    • HIRING: 
      • Find and interview new womxn for our employment training program (on a rolling basis); maintain an open and diversity-driven hiring process for all Ground Up hires
    • ONBOARDING: 
      • Train new hires in company protocol and expectations
      • Get them acclimated to Ground Up
      • Set them up in Gusto, our payroll system (in some cases, this also means helping them get set up with a bank account)
    • NONPROFIT PARTNERSHIPS: 
      • Facilitate relationships with nonprofit partners to contirnue to grow and refine our training program (current partners include Portland Rescue Mission, Central City Concern, Outside In and POIC)
    • FUTURE JOB SUPPORT: 
      • Facilitate relationships with employment partners to guide women in their transition from Ground Up
      • Provide resources as needed for them to reach their next job step (e.g. resume building, mentor connections, job shadowing)
    • WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: 
      • Assist employees in meeting their professional goals, offering guidance, assistance and support to help them transition to their next phase
    • EMPLOYEE SUPPORT : 
      • Conduct one-on-ones with each employee (10-15 total) every 2 weeks to help them meet their individual goals, support them to become better employees, and hold space for their emotions and past traumas. These conversations will often be hard and emotional, as our team members have been through a lot. 
      • As a note, you will be responsible for providing emotional support, resources and guidance, but their direct manager will be the one responsible for performance reviews and job feedback. You will work closely with their managers to stay informed on their job performance.
    • MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATION:
      • Meeting with Operations Manager, Production Manager and co-founders regularly to keep communication open

       

    • CONFLICT RESOLUTION: 
      • When interpersonal conflict arises, help to mediate conflict and assist in finding a compromise, solution, or action plan.
    • COMPANY CULTURE: 
      • Cultivate a positive team environment through team activities, birthday celebrations, job anniversaries and more.
    • EDUCATIONAL TRAININGS:
      • Set up open office hours and educational trainings for professional development (e.g. conflict resolution, resume writing)
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Previous experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations
    • Experience in trauma-informed training and conflict resolution
    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field, or at least 2 years relevant work experience
    • Must be adaptable and open to unforeseen changes

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience providing HR support (this isn’t a must—we'll train you on the HR pieces!)
    • Experience providing job training, employment support, or career coaching

    Additional Information

    This is a full-time, salaried role with the paid holidays, PTO, paid sick time and the opportunity for health care reimbursement after 90 days.
