Make Her Space is a girls’ empowerment and intervention program specifically focused on high-risk adolescents in 7th and 8th grades within educational frameworks. The program is designed to foster a secure and supportive environment conducive to personal development. It aims to implement structured group sessions that cover essential life skills, including hygiene education, resilience training, and empowerment strategies. By emphasizing the development of resilience and strengthening community bonds and seeks to guide participants toward healthier lifestyles and improved self-esteem outcomes. This position is part-time with a work schedule of 10-15 hours per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Group Facilitation
▪ Lead dynamic and interactive group sessions specifically tailored to the developmental needs of girls in the 7th – 8th grades, focusing on critical topics such as personal hygiene, self-care, and adaptive coping strategies.
▪ Establish a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that promotes active engagement and open dialogue, fostering trust and rapport among participants.
Life Skills Education
▪ Design and implement developmentally appropriate curricula addressing a broad spectrum of essential life skills, including self-care practices, stress management techniques, and conflict resolution strategies.
▪ Utilize innovative pedagogical methods, such as experiential workshops, role-playing exercises, and guided discussions, to reinforce learning and cultivate peer support among participants.
Support and Guidance
▪ Provide targeted, individualized support to participants, effectively addressing the unique challenges each girl encounters.
▪ Create a safe, supportive space that encourages girls to express their emotions, share personal narratives, and seek guidance on various issues they face.
Resource Connection
Identify and facilitate connections for participants with supplementary community resources, including counseling services, educational opportunities, and health services.
Collaborate with educational staff, family members, and community organizations to establish a comprehensive, integrated support network for program participants.
Advocacy
Serve as an advocate for the needs and rights of participants, ensuring equitable access to essential resources and support mechanisms necessary for their development.
Educate participants regarding their rights and available avenues for support, fostering self-advocacy and informed decision-making skills.
Documentation
▪ Maintain rigorous, confidential records of attendance, participant development, and session outcomes to effectively evaluate program impact.
▪ Prepare detailed quarterly reports for program administrators, funding entities, and relevant stakeholders.
Ongoing Professional Development
▪ Remain current on evidence-based best practices in youth development, mental health, and educational methodologies through continuous professional training and learning.
▪ Engage in collaborative peer practices and reflective methodologies to enhance program implementation and participant engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS
▪ Demonstrated experience working with youth, particularly those in high-risk populations, within educational or community settings.
▪ Strong comprehension of youth development theories, trauma-informed care approaches, and effective intervention methodologies.
▪ Exceptional facilitation and communication capabilities, with a proven record of engaging and inspiring young girls.
▪ Ability to work collaboratively within diverse groups while effectively managing group dynamics.
▪ Dedication to maintaining confidentiality, upholding ethical standards, and fostering the empowerment of participants.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Program sessions may occur during school hours or on weekends and some holidays, depending on scheduling needs.
Staff should be prepared for potential hostile environments and must be familiar with school lockdown or shelter-in-place procedures to ensure the safety of all participants.
