Payroll Manager / Payroll Compliance Manager– Your Job Duties
You will oversee the Company’s payroll operations, including overseeing the teams daily payroll operations, overseeing high-level processes and bringing improvements, driving change in the department, continuous improvement and serving as the resident payroll compliance expert.
- Manage a team of 3-4 payroll specialists (across multiple business entities and multi-state payroll)
- Oversees execution of payroll processing procedures to ensure payroll is timely and without mistakes – performing a review of all payroll activities, identifying process improvements and architecting fixes
- Serve as the payroll bridge between accounting and human resources regarding payroll matters related to new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
- Oversees compliance with Federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws and best practices, including multistate payroll and union master agreements
- Create and monitor monthly reporting to support KPI tracking on relevant metrics such as the cost of payroll, time to process, accuracy and other KPIs you may develop
- Ensure filing of Certified Payroll, Union Reports, Federal and State Tax filings, 401k payments, etc.
- Participate in 401k, union, and workers compensation audits
- Provide ongoing mentorship and training to staff, perform performance reviews, provide consistent and continuous feedback and career development for the team
You will report to and work alongside the Senior Controller, within the Accounting department.
Payroll Manager / Payroll Compliance Manager\- Required Skills, Experience & Culture Fit
- You have proven success leading a team, supervising, and ensuring accountability and you enjoy leading and mentoring
- You can identify areas for improvement and drive initiatives to improve operations, working with the team
- You have a deep understanding of payroll laws and payroll compliance (ie: what is permitted under payroll law and what is not), including payroll tax regulations
- You bring a “service mindset” and can identify potential solutions and remove obstacles to success for your team
- You have experience with multi-state payroll processing
Payroll Manager / Payroll Compliance Manager\- Extras (Desired, Not Required)
- Experience working in the construction, engineering, public works, utilities, or underground industries in the payroll department
- Experience with the Vista Viewpoint and HCSS software platforms
- Prior experience with union payroll / union agreements
- Certified Payroll Professional designation (CPP)
This is a hybrid role, 3 days a week in office in Sacramento, and 2 days work from your home office.
