    • Hours: Friday 12:00pm-8:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 7:00am-7:30pm, Monday 12:00pm-8:30p
    • Pay Rate: $24.50-$26.20 per hour, (additional $125 Monthly Transportation Stipend provided)

    THE PLACE

    The Burnside Shelter of Portland Rescue Mission hosts our 24-hour ministry 365 days of the year to individuals experiencing homelessness in downtown Portland. Our Burnside Shelter is home to a broad spectrum of comprehensive emergency services, from immediate care (meals, restrooms, mail service, showers, clothing, etc.) to transitional shelter programming for men, all provided by a diverse and skilled team focused on providing compassionate care and building relationships that serve to support growth away from the street environment.

    **THE POSITION
    ** The Guest Care and Next Step Program Specialist will have the opportunity to give hope and restore life through providing compassionate and supportive care to people utilizing the Guest Relations Office, Guest Care Center, Meal Ministry, Next Step program, and Connect program in the afternoons, evenings and weekends. This person will have a highly relational approach to ministry, provide tangible support for people transitioning off the street and have an ability to winsomely share Christ whenever possible. A natural disposition of compassionate service, an eye for operational excellence, and an ability to support people to take steps of growth are a must.

    THE ESSENTIALS

    • Welcome guests into a dynamic environment of Christian hospitality, provide them with compassionate, highly relational care, and inspire them towards hope and life transformation
    • Serve as part of the guest services team in providing coverage of the daily operations of the Burnside facility, especially the work of the Guest Relations Office and shelter ministries in addition to meeting the goals of the Next Step and Connect programs
    • Ensure the Burnside Shelter is a safe and healing environment through operational excellence, following PRM’s safety practices, maintaining all PRM procedures and policies, and de-escalating potentially volatile situations whenever necessary
    • Men in the Next Step Program (10 week program) will be supported, held accountable through weekly meetups, given ministerial care, and advocated for so that they are experiencing success transition away from the street and toward relationship with others and Christ
    • Provide support and encouragement to men in the Connect program (3-6 month program), encouraging them in their growth and service
    • Equip volunteers and interns serving in the Guest Relations Office through training, support, and encouragement, including being available and present to navigate difficult interactions and provide coverage when necessary
    • Document significant interactions with Guests and program participants in PRM database and communicate important information with coworkers via email

    BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • A passionate relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and a testimony of continued growth in faith
    • Knowledge of and experience working with individuals in and around the homeless community, with challenges like those around addiction, mental health, and housing needs
    • Demonstrated ability and experience in Christian ministry, including evangelism (sharing testimony and the Gospel message) and mentorship of individuals pursuing growth
    • A calling to serve God in the ministry to men and women experiencing homelessness and addiction
    • Actively participate in a church community, manifesting spiritual growth and spiritual maturity as defined by traditional Biblical Standards
    • Adheres to Portland Rescue Mission's Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics
    • A personal ethos and work ethic that reflects Portland Rescue Mission’s ministry culture – Highly Relational, Christ-Centered, Joyful Servant
    • Competency and comfortability in using support software such as client databases, Excel, Outlook, and other office tools
    • Ability to climb and descend stairs repeatedly without assistance. Frequent stair navigation is required due to multi-level building layout.
    • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. unassisted
