    HOW WILL YOUR ROLE IMPACT FIRST COMMAND? 

     

    The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer position is responsible for leading the design, installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of First Command’s ongoing hybrid cloud environment. The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will drive cloud adoption and provides a stable cloud infrastructure for applications through repeatable processes with automation of provisioning, deployment, cloud management & proactive monitoring activities. The candidate must be able to understand the developing trends and make adjustments based on them. The position drives cloud technology and product research and is able to make recommendations based on solid technical and business acumen. The position also assists project teams as required and provides third-tier support for issue resolution.

     

    The Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is a subject matter expert in two or more of the following areas:  Microsoft Azure, Cloud DevOps practices, RedHat Linux and cloud infrastructure.   

     

     

     

    WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING? 

     

    • Works with limited supervision to monitor and maintain First Command’s Azure cloud environment, systems hardware, operating systems, and related infrastructure to ensure reliable operations
    • Monitor Azure maintenance and outages, assess impact, and develop strategies to minimize impact
    • Assist with oversight of Azure cloud to ensure the loud service provider adhere to defined operational standards, maintain service level commitments, and provide metrics.
    • Collaborate, consult, coordinate task level work with developers or scrum teams on matter of capacity expansion or new feature deployment. Ensure that server and system capacity projections are accurate and prevent any service degradation due to lack of resources
    • Builds and automates cloud infrastructure through the use of scripting, templates and automation toolsets.
    • Develop functional designs, prototypes, process designs, testing, training, and definition of support procedures for First Command’s Azure infrastructure.
    • Optimizes the infrastructure for IaaS, SaaS, PaaS and other cloud applications
    • Recommend and plan for future growth of systems taking into consideration capacity planning, monitoring, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity for all servers and storage systems or networks
    • Produce and maintain documentation for use in the installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware, operating systems, and related infrastructure
    • Lead transformation of ongoing Azure Cloud operations.
    • Participate in design and implementation of architectural roadmaps regarding Cloud based systems
    • Lead and design technical infrastructure & cloud processes, integrate solutions into existing infrastructure, consult on development projects, help deploy solutions that meet business and technical requirements
    • Coordinate with service providers, vendors and various First Command teams to ensure timely resolution of cloud related system issues
    • Participate in on-call rotation and be available for special duties outside normal working hours

     

     

     

    WHAT SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU NEED? 

     

     

    EDUCATION

    • Bachelor Degree in computer science or similar field required

     

    WORK EXPERIENCE

    • Required
      • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Azure with minimum of 3+ years of supporting and maintain an Azure cloud infrastructure.
      • 8+ years progressive working in a Windows domain infrastructure and/or Linux environment.
      • In-depth experience in automation (Infrastructure-as-Code, Configuration-as-Code) and management of both on-premises infrastructure and applications, cloud hosted Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service capabilities (Azure) including virtual networks, virtual machines, and data services.
      • Skilled with a CI/CD platforms and tools such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
      • Proficient in development of Powershell scripts and management of script libraries.
      • Be able to deploy through automation and translate from and/or contribute to application design architectures for Azure
    • Prefer experience with the following technologies:
      • Microsoft Windows Server 2019/2016/2012
      • Cloud Infrastructure (Azure)
      • RedHat Linux/Unix
      • Microsoft Messaging Platforms (Office 365)
      • VMware ESXi/vSphere

     

    CERTIFICATIONS

    • Current Microsoft Azure certification required.

    • Recognize, troubleshoot and resolve and system issues without supervision
    • Trouble shooting and performance tuning
    • Document and distribute systems reports as required
    • Required to work within a team environment
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills including explaining complex technical concepts to all parties
