  • Responsibilities

    This General Maintenance Worker will be assigned to our Plumbing Shop and the primary purpose of the position will be to work on the pools by maintaining water chemistry and cleanliness protocols.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:     

    • Takes water chemistry readings, vacuums, backwashes, adjusts chemicals as required.
    • Uses concrete,  plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in pool walls and decks.
    • Paints structures and equipment.
    • Repairs or replaces concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
    • Replaces damaged tiles.
    • Utilizes Safety Data Sheets to identify chemical characteristics.
    • Completes Work Orders daily and accurately.
    • Initiates material requisitions to order parts/materials needed for repairs.
    • Assists with material and labor estimates.
    • Work also involves other duties as assigned, including compliance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Company Policies.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:  

    • Must have High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Only applicants with a CURRENT Anne Arundel County, MD Pool Operator license will be considered.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

    PHYSICAL EFFORT: Craftsmen often lift, carry, and handle materials, tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. They occasionally work in cramped and inconvenient surroundings requiring manipulation of equipment in awkward positions for prolonged periods.  Work frequently requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods.  Must be able to ascend and descend on ladders of various heights.  Make repairs and installations from ladders, or platforms where parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard‑to‑reach places. 

    WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is accomplished both indoor of the structures and outdoors, all climates, including working outside and on top of the structures, often exposed to hot sun for extended periods of time.  Frequently works in cramped spaces, hot/cold spaces, and areas with hot/cold, oily, wet, and dusty surfaces.  The craftsman may be exposed to moving parts and equipment, or machinery while working in and around electrical equipment and of machinery units.  May be called in for off-hours emergency situations including weekends and holidays.  On-Call Duty rotation may be required, with company cell phone provided when in a duty status.  Limited work required in asbestos containing areas, with company training and protective equipment provided.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    This position is located at the United States Naval Academy.  The position has a competitive hourly rate  of $25.35 , comprehensive benefits, free parking, paid federal holidays and generous  first year PTO.
