    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Recreation Aide III is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating recreation and sports programs for the recreation center, park, or off-site locations. Guides and supervises the work of junior staff and volunteers to achieve quality delivery of programs.

     

    CORE SCOPE OF POSITION

    • Plans, organizes, implements and coordinates sports and recreation programs, including programs for adult teams, leagues, tournaments, special events, health development, youth outreach, indigenous sports, after school programs for elementary school children, summer camps, and field trips.
    • Coordinates event for each sport such as ordering trophies, setting up tables, and arrangement for foods and gifts.
    • Coaches youth sports teams.
    • Guides and supervises the work of junior staff, interns, and volunteers to achieve the quality delivery of sport programs.
    • Serves as a liaison in the Inter Tribal Sports organization.
    • Coordinates events for recreation programs such as ordering supplies and materials, setting up tables and equipment, and arrangement for foods, etc.
    • Serves as a liaison with other recreation programs and organizations as assigned.
    • Provides reports on attendance and success of the sport and recreation programs.
    • Registers participants in classes and other activities.
    • Collects fees from participants, issues receipts and maintains accurate records of transaction.
    • Provides instruction to participants in organized sports and recreational programs, classes and activities.
    • Ensures that a participant follows departmental policies and procedures.
    • Maintains recreation center with light housekeeping and maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, and/or dry mopping floors.
    • Prepares, paints, and sets up sport fields for game day.
    • Ensures laundry activities are accomplished, including towels and making sure gear are clean and dry.
    • Establishes and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with the tribal communities and outlying communities serving the Viejas Indian Reservation.
    • Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies. Issues equipment and supplies to members.
    • Keeps track of uniform and ensure cleanliness.
    • Orders office supplies and prepares check requests.
    • Coordinates transportation for game day, recreation programs and activities. Drives children to or from recreational activities in a Viejas vehicle.
    • Maintains schedule for all sport fields and facilities.
    • Creates, produces, and distributes printed sports and recreational materials; communicates information to all team members and community.
    • Prepares and documents incidences promptly.
    • Prepares reports and works on special projects to support initiative and directives from management.
    • Assists all participants and guests with inquiries regarding recreation events and promotions.
    • Resolves problems or refers matters to recreation management.
    • Partners and works with other departments and outside organization to ensure efficient transaction, excellent guest service and motivated team members.
    • Understands and follows safety guidelines while working in the jobsite.
    • Ensures a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment is maintained.
    • Performs all related and compatible duties as assigned.

    • Interacts with children, parents, community, and peer groups.

     

    SUPERVISION

    • Coordinates the work of junior staff, interns, and volunteers.

     

    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
    • Associate’s degree required.
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment.

     

    EXPERIENCE

    • 4 or more years of experience working with children, preferably in the area of recreational, physical education and related experience.
    • Experience with diverse culture, Native American culture preferred.

    • General knowledge team sports and sports terminology.
    • General knowledge of recreational activities, functions, events and programs.
    • Basic computer knowledge, using Microsoft Program (Publisher, Excel, and Word).
