    Senior Distribution Engineer 

    Position Summary: 

    Develops and technically reviews plans, specifications and construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards. Distribution systems may be in an OH, UG, or URD environment. Work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems. Project work will require performing engineering calculations that may include: structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices. Assignments may also include: preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, development of a BOM, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements. Work assignments will include travelling by motor vehicle to various project locations located throughout the area to conduct field investigations. 

      Primary Duties: 

    • Responsible for technical review of designs, plans, studies and projects. 

    • Manages multiple projects and associated budgets, schedules and resources. 

    • Provides on-the-job training to new staff. 

    • Functions as quality inspector or defines quality requirements on engineering designs and projects. 

    • Assures that all design specifications conform to the latest national and local codes, rules and regulations. 

    • Reviews and critiques proposed changes to engineering standards, policies and guidelines. 

    • Review development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices. 

    • Conducts surveys to gather field data. 

    • Prepare and interpret schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids. 

    • Prepares engineering analysis for projects to include: preliminary design, calculation, life cycle cost and equipment selection. 

    • Assists designers, technicians, and engineers as directed while developing specialized distribution engineering skills. 

    • Supports company safety programs and initiatives by following all EHS and Operating procedures and adhering to established design standards. 

    • Perform various design duties including conducting field surveys, performing calculations, preparing drawings and specifications, selecting equipment, developing material lists, estimating labor and material costs, and updating GIS system associated with the analysis and design of distribution facilities for simple construction projects. 

    • Provide technical field support including staking and design modifications to accommodate field changes. 

    • Apply Engineering Guides, Construction Standards, National Electric Safety Code, NBIC and ASME. 

    • Apply Company policies associated with customer charges and sale of Company facilities. 

    • Provide designs and field assessments to support emergency restoration efforts. 

    • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding information needed for projects.

     

     

      Requirements: 

    • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or PE. 

    • Five (5) years directly related experience as an Engineer. 

    • Valid State Drivers license.

      Working Conditions: 

    • May require travel. 

    • May be required to work non-standard work schedules. 

    • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather. 

    • May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces. 

    • Outdoor environment requiring ability to traverse rough terrain, exposure to hazardous conditions, work in extreme/inclement weather, and wearing of PPE. 

    • Required to be available for callouts to respond to storm damage during non-standard hours, weekends, and holidays.

  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Teaching certification in the state in which the Center is located.
    • Valid state driver’s license.
    • CPR certification.

     PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • K-12 Endorsement.
    • One year of teaching.
