    TITLE:  Quality Systems Manager

    DEPARTMENT(S): Quality Department

    REPORTS TO: Director of Quality Systems and Continuous Improvement

    SUPERVISOR POSITION: No

     

    JOB SUMMARY

    The quality systems manager (QSM) ensures predictable, consistent, high quality products are distributed to customers daily. The ideal QSM champions the quality effort among employees in all departments; integrates quality and efficiency; stops unacceptable product from leaving the bakery; and facilitates the development of a quality-oriented culture that focuses on continuous improvement.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manages the systems that drive quality in the bakery.
    • Establishes and integrates product standards (specs) including visuals on the production floor.
    • Manages SPC data collection, process measurements, process analysis, reporting and recommendations for improvement.
    • Ensures product quality evaluation including daily product scoring and lab analyses are complete
    • Monitors customer complaints and introduces problem solving solutions.
    • Tracks key performance indicators (KPIs). Facilitates meetings based on KPIs to ensure that they are quality focused, streamlined and the measured results continue to improve.
    • Develops and conducts plant employee training on quality principles and product scoring calibration.
    • Identifies areas of opportunity to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
    • Ensures compliance with food defense programs
    • Manages food safety programs
    • Other related duties as assigned by ownership and/or plant general manager.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred; industry training certification desired
    • Prior experience in quality. AIB graduate or baking/industry certification preferred
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and/or six sigma and continuous improvement methodologies preferred
    • Minimum three years of experience in Quality Assurance systems implementation and management with minimum two years in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry
    • Minimum three years of experience in accountability for design and or enforcement of processes
    • Minimum three years of experience working as the lead or key member of a quality team preferred
    • Minimum three years of cross-functional business partnering at executive leadership levels
    • Experience in baked goods products preferred
    • Able to interpret and support GMPs, sanitation processes, product recall procedures, food safety and develop & implement related policies.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of theory, principles and applications of statistics and statistical process control
    • Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation
    • Knowledgeable of product. 
    • Able to test products using applicable equipment and tools.
    • Physically capable of moving to all areas of the plant.
    • Able to view product and determine adherence to quality control standards including size, shape, color, cut, etc.
    • Able to generate written and verbal communications clearly and distinctly.
    • Able to work any shifts for indefinite periods of time.
    • Performance of other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job.
    • Ability to use general Office equipment including computer, calculator, and copy machine

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: To perform the duties of this job, the manager must stand; walk; use hands/ finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: In performing the duties of this job, the manager is exposed to wet or humid conditions, hot or cold climate, and work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level of the work environment is considered moderate to loud.

    VISION REQUIREMENTS: To complete the duties of this job, the manager must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    TRAINING REQUIRED: The manager must complete all annual safety training, ergonomics, and any specialized and/or skill ware training this is required to perform his/her job.
