Hale Centre Theatre is seeking experienced individuals to operate our state-of-the-art automation systems for the award-winning productions taking place on our stages. The automation team works through innovation, continual training, and cutting-edge technology to create memorable and exciting experiences for our patrons through live stage performances.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    As a full-time Automation Technician (Show Operator), you will be responsible for working as part of the Automation team to operate automated show elements and control systems in Hale Centre Theatre’s Centre Stage and Jewel Box Theatres. This position reports to the Head of Automation.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Operate the automation control console in a safe and consistent manner for performances, performer/technician training, and maintenance operations.
    • Complete all required documentation such as pre-show checklists as directed.
    • Report issues occurred during performances in applicable logs and/or designated reporting methods.
    • Assist with maintenance and routine safety inspections on automation equipment and systems.
    • Develop a thorough knowledge of all Automation Department equipment.
    • Participate in department trainings and development processes.
    • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, software, and mechanical problems should they arise.
    • Work with other technical departments to maintain safety policies and procedures for maintenance, training, performer rescues, and performances.
    • Perform other duties assigned by HCT leadership.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

    • 3+ years of operational experience with large-scale theatrical automation systems.
    • 3+ years of experience working and/or maintaining large-scale theatrical productions.
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in automation, theatre or a related field.
    • Operational experience with automation software (TAIT Navigator preferred).
    • Understanding of the various elements of the theatre process – production, technical and performance.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and usage of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Strong organizational and administrative skills – detail oriented.
    • Ability to problem-solve and facilitate solutions to issues.
    • Ability to learn quickly and adapt rapidly when required.
    • Ability to work productively under time pressures and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to work independently and exercise excellent decision-making skills.
    • High level of computer proficiency with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets.
    • Works well in a stressful environment with many personality types.
    • Ability to work long hours and to manage an irregular schedule including weekends and holidays.
    • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
    • Ability to work in an active team environment.
    • Willingness to learn and grow.
    • Ability to lift 50lbs+.
    • Ability to work at heights of 75ft+.

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • TAIT Navigator Automation Software operating and/or programming experience.
    • Experience operating and/or programming performer flying systems.
    • Basic knowledge of Siemens or Beckhoff PLC, IO, & control systems pertaining to automated stage machinery.

    Hourly compensation commensurate with experience. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, and qualifications.
