HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.
We are currently looking for a FULL CHARGE BOOKKEEPER to support daily accounting and finance-related operations. The bookkeeper is responsible for all accounting functions through the general ledger using Integrated Accounting Software.
BOOKKEEPER MUST BE ABLE TO PROCESS:
- Accounts Payable; approving and coding invoices for A/P Payments
- Accounts Receivable; Submit monthly invoices and reports to funding sources. Follow up on outstanding payments.
- Cash Receipts; recording payments received from funding sources.
- Purchasing; approving purchases for different programs, coding, and assigning cost center each purchase to ensure proper allocation.
- Payroll allocations and shared expense allocations
- Bank reconciliations
- Credit card statement reconciliations
- Assist with monthly journal entries and GL account analysis
- Monitor contract spending monthly to maximize reimbursement and ensure GL accuracy
- Prepare contract budgets as well as budget modifications
- Monitor program budgets, monthly & quarterly, and identify variance analysis and forecasting functions.
- Assist with monthly and year-end closings
- Serve as the primary contact for all funder audits, prepare supporting documentation for these audits and the annual agency audit
- Organize and maintain electronic files
- Work with programmatic and administrative staff
- Have experience working in a non-profit environment.
FULL CHARGE BOOKKEEPER SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- The position requires at least an Associate's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- MINIMUM 4 YEARS OF WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE WITH NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS' ACCOUNTING PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES.
- Must have excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Excel a must. KNOWLEDGE OF FUNDEZ A PLUS.
- Be detail-oriented
- Be able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Be capable of working independently to meet deadlines
- Be flexible to work overtime when necessary.
Salary: $40,000 to $50,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
