    Position Type

    The BAS System Specialist position is a full-time position.  Overtime may be required based on the project needs.

    Responsibilities

    The BAS System Specialist position is responsible for the complete set of operational aspects of the business. The following is a brief description of each of these aspects:

    FIELD AND TECHNICAL – Responsible for project delivery per HDC Automation standards and quality control methods. Monitor project construction, attend project meetings, installation and wiring of control equipment, subcontractor supervision and support, control systems startup and commissioning, assist in mechanical systems startup, provide support for the test and balance contractor, maintain project documentation and records, perform customer training, and provide customer support.

    PROJECT MANAGEMENT – Maintain project delivery schedule from all aspects: engineering, parts delivery, installation, subcontracts, change order management, startup, documentation, assist with project cost control, and closeout.

    SERVICE – On-site troubleshooting of problems, repair or replacement of equipment, software revisions and modifications, software upgrades, and fulfillment of service contract requirements.

    CUSTOMER SUPPORT – Maintain customer support whether remotely or on site.  Always provide assistance and maintain an open form of communication with our customers.  Think of yourself as a consultant and as a solution provider.

    Technical Skills

    The following is a brief summary of the required technical skills for this position.

    1.      Knowledge and hands on expertise in industry standard electronic applications: 24V AC/DC circuits, 4-20 MA and 0-10VDC signals, and other various low voltage electronic applications.

    2.      Experience with IT technology: IT network topologies, IT network components, and IP addressing.

    3.      Knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems and HVAC equipment including central plants, VAV systems and unitary HVAC units.

    4.      Proficient understanding of mechanical systems and HVAC equipment operation, the ability to interpret sequences of operation, and implement efficient and safe equipment operation methods.

    5.      Experienced in performing installation, programming, startup & checkout, service, and support of DDC control systems.

    6.      Skilled in utilizing and installing various DDC network topologies: BACnet, LonWorks and Modbus.

    7.      Proficient in reading construction drawings and project specifications. The ability to interpret the design requirements of the mechanical, electrical and DDC control systems specified.

    8.      Knowledge in computer systems networking architecture and functionality.

    9.      Practical experience with troubleshooting issues with mechanical, electrical and control systems.

    10.   Proficient in using a digital multimeter for troubleshooting and other required testing tools.

    11.   Skilled in general-use software applications, such as: Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Adobe, etc.

    12.   Extensive skills in integration and technical software applications, such as:

                               i.     Tridium Niagara

                             ii.     Honeywell WEBs applications

                            iii.     Third party equipment integrations via BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus, etc.

    ·        In most cases the BAS systems specialist will be required to work independently and must have the drive and organizational skills to stay on task.  It is expected that each task required of the BAS systems specialist is being executed with minimal supervision.

    Job Requirements

    ·        Associates Degree or equivalent work experience.

    ·        3 years or more of Tridium/Niagara experience preferred.

    ·        5 years of BAS/DDC controls field experience working through the different project functions including project management, subcontractor coordination, installation, checkout, system commissioning, and customer training on new construction or design build DDC controls projects.

    ·        Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical blueprints as well as technical drawings, work orders, equipment submittals and manuals.

    ·        Working knowledge of BACnet, LonWorks and Modbus protocols.

    ·        Experience with integrating third party equipment and systems.

    ·        Excellent communication and troubleshooting skills.

    ·        Proficient with using a PC/Laptop including Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workplace apps.

    ·        Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and supervision.

    ·        An online skills assessment test will be required prior to employment.

    ·        Clean driving record and able to pass a drug and background screening is required.

    ·        Frequent travel to local jobsites.  Some overnight travel may also be required, but minimal.

    ·        This position requires working at construction sites, in mechanical/electrical equipment rooms or on a roof in possible extreme weather conditions.

    ·        While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to energized moving mechanical systems and heavy equipment.

    ·        The employee may be exposed to high, precarious places that will require a ladder or lift to safely reach.
