Overview
The Digital Marketing Specialist (DMS) is responsible for the day-to-day execution of digital marketing initiatives, including email marketing, online advertising/promotions tracking, social media advertising, web content management, and other digital media programs that support the company’s marketing and business development goals. The DMS ensures communications to clients and prospects are relevant, compelling, targeted, accurate, and distributed at optimal times. In addition, the DMS assists with the compilation of marketing analytics reports to measure the success of email marketing and online advertising campaigns. The DMS will also assist with general website content management.
The DMS is a key player within the marketing communications team on digital marketing initiatives, and works closely with the Digital Marketing Manager (DMM), Director of Marketing & Communications (DMC), Marketing & Communications Manager (MCM), Associate Director of Web Development (DWD), and other members of Marketing, Practice Development, Business Development, IT, and Operations.
Responsibilities
Email Marketing
Constructs and distributes compelling email campaigns to maximize open and click-through rates while minimizing opt-outs and maintaining compliance with SPAM laws (both nationally and internationally); assists in the management of list cleanup for bounce backs of emails to keep databases as up-to-date as possible
Marketing Analytics
Assists the DMM with the collection, configuration, administration, analysis, and presentation of web/digital analytics across web advertising platforms; tracks the success of email marketing, digital advertising and online initiatives, and proactively communicates results in a complete, easy to understand manner; makes recommendations for improving metrics as appropriate; identifies tools and techniques for assessing, presenting and applying this information to the business
Website Content Management & Enhancements
Assists with general website content management, including uploading and optimizing web content; recommends website updates and enhancements, and works with vendors as needed; provides search engine optimization (SEO) recommendations during the planning and development for new website content
Database Management
Maximizes growth and integrity of client and prospect databases; suggests and implements strategies for growing databases (e.g. newsletter recipients); identifies opportunities for improving and leveraging internal databases; manages list cleanup for bounce backs of emails to keep databases as up-to-date as possible
Social Media Advertising
Assists in the management of HootSuite dashboard; posts content to Social Media platforms; assists DMM with purchasing and targeting of paid advertisements on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; assists the DMM with advertising persona development
Project Management/Other Projects
Leads specific company-wide online initiatives, e.g. holiday e-cards; maintains and updates the marketing section on the intranet portal; serves as backup for editing marketing materials as needed; available for other projects designated by the DMM, DMC and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills
Digital Marketing
Has a strong understanding of digital marketing best practices, including how to construct and distribute compelling email campaigns to maximize open and click-through rates while minimizing opt-outs and maintaining compliance with SPAM laws (both nationally and internationally)
Industry Trends
Stays current on digital and web marketing, advertising, social media, and CRM tools and trends, especially in terms of their applications within the legal industry; Identifies and makes recommendations on developments that could be beneficial to the company
Web Content Knowledge
Well versed in SEO tools and techniques; has familiarity with video marketing practices
Client Service
Focused on meeting or exceeding expectations of internal (neutrals, regional staff, SMT) and external clients
Communication
Has strong verbal and written communication skills; possesses good copywriting and strong proofreading skills; written documents (e-mail campaigns, blog posts, etc.) should be clear, compelling; can confidently communicate with agencies, managers, and neutrals, and convey a solid command of the topics being discussed
Legal
Should have a good understanding of the legal industry and be motivated to increase that understanding over time through reading, as well as consultation with staff and/or neutrals
Organization
Exceptional ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and tasks in a quick paced environment
Technical
Proficient knowledge of HTML, CSS, Website Content Management, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Google Analytics, MS Office, Excel, and Adobe Creative Suite
Education/Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (marketing, web marketing, etc.), is preferred
- At least 3 years of marketing or business development experience
- Experience within the legal or other professional services industry, is preferred
- Web and digital advertising experience
- Video marketing experience, a plus
