JOB DESCRIPTION
The R&D Manager is responsible for setting clear expectations for direct reports and establishing roles and responsibilities to manage deliverables to meet business commitments. You will lead a team of talented scientists who work on high impact, global projects critical to the success of the business unit. This individual must possess a true passion for team development, serving as technical lead while coaching and mentoring their team members. The ideal candidate will be able to develop a strong network across functions and challenge people and project teams to successfully achieve goals while influencing at all levels in the organization
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for leading the design and development of quantitative RT PCR IVD assays
Responsible for creating R&D project schedule with associated resource allocations and budgets
Serves as Assay R&D technical lead and R&D core team member on high impact Program teams
Assures adherence to budgets, schedules, and work plans
Works on issues where analyses require an in-depth understanding of organizational objectives.
Provides tactical updates to R&D leadership
Sets annual goals and objectives for direct reports and tracks performance on a quarterly cadence
Communicates and collaborates cross-functionally to achieve program goals
Review project progress with the Director of R&D
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or virology) or, a BS/MS in a relevant scientific discipline (biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or virology) plus a minimum of 8-10 years of experience
A minimum of 5+ years of product development experience in a regulated environment (FDA preferred)
A minimum of 3 years of management experience
A minimum of 3 years of quantitative PCR product development experience
Excellent quantitative skills and demonstrated application of complex experimental and statistical methods
Preferred experience:
Strong track record of project development with direct experience designing and developing multiplex RT PCR IVD assays
Hands-on experience with PCR assay development and optimization
Experience migrating IVD assays to novel instrument platforms
Must possess superior critical thinking and problem solving skills
Strong verbal/written and skilled interpersonal communication skills are required
Experience building, managing, mentoring, and developing teams
Experience in innovation, design, and development of PCR assays is preferred
