  • Responsibilities

    The Director of Automation Engineering is responsible for technical management, development, enhancement and implementation of new and existing systems and technologies related to manufacturing, research, and testing processes. This role’s primary responsibility involves the development of high-throughput automation of complex solutions and reagents in a regulated environment used to support Biotech and Biopharma industries. This level of expertise requires knowledge in multiple disciplines to support growth while reducing costs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Build and manage an interdisciplinary team accountable to design, develop, test, validate, and integrate automated processes and workflows using liquid handling platforms.

    • Collaborate cross-functionally to transfer technology and products from development into a regulated environment (FDA, EU, etc.)

    • Lead and implement the vision and long-term roadmap for automated technologies

    • Lead the evaluation and budgeting of new technologies, platforms, and systems that align with company priorities such as capacity targets, productivity enhancements, efficiency and quality.

    • Provide mentorship to team members by coaching and facilitating professional/personal growth opportunities

    • Oversee the commissioning and maintenance of all automated systems, including creating maintenance, service, and qualification protocols with thorough and compliant documentation practices

    • Utilize statistical tools to gather data and execute changes to improve product quality and minimize downtime

    • Design equipment layout of workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency

    • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, product design, materials and parts.

    • Oversee and manage entire project staff including engineers, technicians and administrative support

    • Ensures that project delivery methodologies, project management processes/principles and project management tools are utilized to achieve project goals. Owns the key project management business processes and improves and simplify these processes continuously

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electronics/Electrical, Mechatronics or related engineering field). Master’s in mechanical engineering is preferred but relevant experience will be acceptable

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Automation Engineering working in different industries such as Medical Devices, Pharmaceutical, Food Industry and Automotive Industries while demonstrating progressive growth and increased responsibilities while launching different product lines and highly automated systems, including at least 3-5 years in a management role.

    • Trained and versed in Lean Manufacturing Methodology, CAD Modeling (Solid Works), Statistical

    • Software Use (MiniTab or JUMP), PLC coding (various platforms such as AB, Mitsubishi, Click).

    • Excellence communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate ideas, goals and results to various audiences.

    • Creative problem-solving skills.

    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods and tool design.

    • Experience in regulations such as CFR 820 and ISO 13485.

    • Experience with GDP, GMP, Change Control, Change Management, Asset Control, Calibration,

    • Maintenance, CAPAs, NCRs, Risk Management, Deviations, DCOs and Engineering Changes is a must.
