    Summary

    Examines and analyzes accounting records to determine financial status of organization and prepares financial reports concerning operating procedures by performing the following duties.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Welcomes guests courteously and enthusiastically, registers, and assigns rooms to guests. Issues room key.

    Answers inquiries pertaining to hotel services; registration of guests; and shopping, dining, entertainment, and travel directions for guests.

    Engages in conversation with guests in order to be source of local information.

    Keeps record of room availability and guests’ accounts.

    Computes bill, collects payment, and makes change for guests.

    Makes and confirms reservations.

    Posts charges such as room, food, liquor, and telephone to ledger.

    Responds appropriately to guest complaints. Takes actions necessary to ensure guest satisfaction.

    Deposits guests’ valuables in hotel safe or safe deposit box. Provides security for guests by following procedures as outlined in HLC’s safety and security manual.

    Reviews data regarding all reports, records of daily business, such as daily reports, cash reports, room reports, credit card totals, etc. and verifies their correctness using HLC auditing procedures.

    Inspects items in books of original entry to determine if accepted accounting procedure was followed in recording transactions.

    Verifies journal and ledger entries of cash and check payments, purchases, expenses, and trial balances.

    Prepares reports for management concerning audit, financial conditions found, and source and application of funds.

    Brings any suspect or improper transactions to the attention of management.

    Performs any additional tasks as assigned by property manager.

    Qualification Requirements

    Education and/or Experience

    One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of our organization.

    Mathematical Skill

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Other Skills and Abilities

    Ability to learn computer functions and operate a keyboard with sufficient skill to carry out guest registration and auditing functions.
