    WESTWOOD PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, INC. is seeking a Civil Engineer Technician to join our renewable energy team in our Minneapolis, MN office. Qualified candidates will have experience with civil design and drafting using Autodesk Civil 3D. The position will assist project managers and engineers with the drafting, design and plan preparation of utility-scale wind and solar projects. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. 

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist engineers in civil-related design and drafting of roads, mass grading with earthwork quantities, erosion control, drainage studies, and other CAD design and drafting duties.
    • Will assist project managers and engineers with the drafting, design and plan preparation of wind access roads and graded turbine pads as well as greenfield solar layout and grading.
    • Design will be primarily in AutoCAD Civil 3D with emphasis on drafting of roads, mass grading, earthwork takeoffs, erosion control and plan setup.

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • Working knowledge/experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D design and drafting.
    • Understanding of survey coordinates systems and how they are used to spatially orient CAD drawings.
    • High school diploma and associate degree in architectural or engineering drafting or civil engineering technology.
    • Ability to apply standard engineering principles and practices.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, word, excel, notepad, etc.
    • Good communication skills.

     

     FOR PREFERRED CONSIDERATION (NOT REQUIRED):

    • Experience with consulting and a fast-paced, collaborative atmosphere.
    • Plan preparation experience for construction project.
    • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Proficiency with suite of AutoCAD Civil 3D software with understanding of alignments, profiles, corridors, and grading objects.
    • Working knowledge of GIS and Arc-GIS will be valued.
    • Interest in renewable energies including wind, solar, and battery storage.

  • Qualifications

    The ideal candidate in this position is skilled at managing, implementing, and operating applications in a complex, multi-system / multi-vendor computing environment, and leverages new and existing technology in support of business and IT objectives. Therefore, the following qualifications are required:  

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
    • A minimum of eight (8) years of IT experience in systems analysis and design, application development, and project leadership/management.
    • Experience in a financial institution is preferred.
    • Exposure to multi-tier enterprise IT infrastructure systems, including server and end-user compute, storage (SAN, NAS, data protection and archiving), network (media, switches and routers), database (preferably SQL Server and Oracle), virtualization (preferably VMware) and directory services (preferably Active Directory).
    • Proven ability to implement innovative technology solutions that address business and IT needs.
    • Practical experience creating application and technical design documentation.
    • Proven ability to work independently and on own initiative
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills are crucial, considering a broad audience ranging from executives to technicians, as well as ability to think clearly & analyze quantitatively.
    • Detail oriented, and ability to meet, and exceed, quality standards.
    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to determine an appropriate level of detail given project milestones and target audience.
    • Excellent planning, organizational, communication and time management skills.
    • Ability to effectively prioritize projects and meet aggressive deadlines.
    • Ability to balance many tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-moving environment.
