  • Responsibilities

    The primary responsibility of the Project Engineer will be to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams focused on design and manufacture of leading-edge avionics products.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams (electrical, mechanical, software, systems, and certification) through all phases of product development including planning, architecture, implementation, verification, certification, and sustainment.
    • Lead technical teams in proposal pursuits for the capture new business.
    • Technical point of contact with Astronautics Customers or future Astronautics Customers.
    • Manage the technical scope with Customers and internal development teams.
    • Provide technical leadership to ensure that designs meet or exceed customer and certification requirements.
    • Plan and manage engineering teams schedules and budgets to ensure alignment with customer and internal expectations.
    • Identify and mitigate technical risks and realize opportunities on projects.
    • Lead project level product design reviews and closure of actions.
    • Monitor and communicate project status (written and orally) to Program Management, Astronautics Management, and Customers.
    • Provide technical leadership for supplier and subcontractor performance.
    • Propose and manage the design of product improvements and technology updates.
    • Coordinate with product strategy to ensure that product developments align with product roadmaps

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science preferred
    • 7+ years of engineering experience in electronic equipment is required
    • 3+ years of engineering leadership experience ensuring designs meet or exceed customer requirements is required
    • Demonstrated expertise in planning and executing engineering development projects including staffing, schedule, budget, and risk management

     

    PREFERRED SKILLS:

    • Experience in the design of avionics or other safety critical systems
    • Knowledge of ARP-4754, DO-160, DO-254, and DO-178
    • Working knowledge of MS Project

    Education/Experience:

    Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of E-mail and handheld computers (will train).
