    Digital Realty is looking for a strong technologist and business leader to help build new network ecosystems, partnerships and routes to market. The DIRECTOR, STRATEGY & MARKET DEVELOPMENT - CONNECTIVITY will work in a highly collaborative team environment chartered with building Digital Realty’s Connectivity Ecosystem. As part of a team, you will be responsible for driving profitable growth across our connectivity segment customers who consist of carriers, IXs and CDNs. We work closely with the sales, marketing, product and engineering teams to target areas of future growth within the segment and to then build and drive programs that position DLR to be in the best spot to win those new opportunities (think Horizon 2&3). The role is very broad and can involve everything from building business cases for new market launches to assisting the sales teams in complex MSA negotiations to defining a backhaul strategy between several facilities in a market. The role requires a solid combination of business, technical and matrix leadership capabilities.

     

    The ideal candidate will have a multi-disciplinary background across business, networking/data center technology and matrix management who can work with both internal and external stakeholders, across all levels of an organization, to successfully provide solutions to complex current and future business challenges. Candidate is organized, adept at planning and managing multiple projects concurrently, and possesses strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills.

     

    POSITION: DIRECTOR, STRATEGY & MARKET DEVELOPMENT - CONNECTIVITY

     

    OPPORTUNITY SNAPSHOT

    The DIRECTOR, STRATEGY & MARKET DEVELOPMENT - CONNECTIVITY will be responsible for developing and executing key initiatives using a strong balance of business sense, technical aptitude, market insights, and project management skills. Candidate will also leverage analytics to define market need as well as to determine, measure, and communicate program effectiveness, while adapting as needed to ensure success. This role requires both independent and team activities in order to effectively meet established goals. Most importantly, you will have an opportunity to be a part of a visionary and growing company and work with some of the brightest minds in the industry.

     

    THE ROLE

    • Development of market level connectivity strategies and then development and management of programs that move those strategies forward

    • Support the sales organization with opportunity targeting and strategic deal support aligned to specific strategies

    • Lead and/or assist in complex commercial negotiations (MSAs, MOUs, NDAs, etc.) with assigned accounts

    • Development of business cases and funding requests for programs tied to specific strategies

    • Identify, negotiate and track project schedules, dependencies and milestones; obtain the resources (internal and external) required to meet project objectives

    • Become the team SME across 3 distinct swim lanes: DLR assets within a defined geography, specific named accounts and certain broad technology areas or subsegments (i.e. IX’s, CDN’s, etc.)

     

    ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

     

    STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

    • Proven innovation and digital transformation leadership experience
    • Ability to organize technical and market requirements into development roadmaps and a strategic market outlook
    • Ability to identify broad business and/or technology trends and create a differentiated execution strategy that will enable Digital Realty to capitalize and meet the demands of our customers

     

    NETWORKING

    • Substantial telecommunications experience required; technical and commercial knowledge of Internet, transport, MPLS and IPVPN topologies and architectures required
    • Experience with routing and switching protocols; SDN/NFV, performance measurement, tuning and scaling, and reliability and security techniques
    • Experience with Network Peering, Internet Exchanges, CDNs and emerging edge architectures
    • Data center networking technologies and architectures (Leaf-Spine architectures, Data Center Interconnect technologies)

     

    CLOUD COMPUTING

    • Strong understanding of the Cloud Computing ecosystem and fundamental network architectures

     

    EDGE COMPUTING

    • Strong understanding of the Evolving Edge Ecosystem and the workloads most likely to drive early adoption of Edge Multi-tenant Data Center environments

     

    ENTERPRISE IT

    • Must have a thorough understanding of, and experience with servers, storage, layer 3 networking and enterprise software.  Solid understanding of the entire OSI stack is a must
    • Experience with data center virtualization, software defined data centers and hyper-converged infrastructure solutions

     

    This position supports all of Digital Realty product, innovation and sales and marketing organizations, therefore may require approximately 30% travel. STRATEGY & MARKET DEVELOPMENT SR. MGR. / DIRECTOR may also be required to travel to other markets or other locations where internal, as well as customer, IT / engineering groups are located to conduct and lead on-site meetings.

     

    THE REQUIREMENTS

     

    • 10+ years of technical experience ideally with several of those in a product management or development role – Hosting/Cloud companies, Cloud/Networking/IT consulting, wireless and wireline access technologies
    • Effective Solution Sales Capabilities: Demonstrates advanced solution selling abilities and effective, pro-active customer communications including proposal development, delivery, and RFP responses A combination of education and experience is acceptable
    • Proven technical support for sales and marketing initiatives through participation in proposals, marketing studies, speaking engagements, blogs and other technical writing
    • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline or comparable experience

     

     

    PREFERENTIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

    • Proven innovation program development and execution success
    • Established relationships with critical technology providers
    • MS and or MBA not required, but preferred
