20 hours per week! The Young Adult Peer Mentor helps transitional age young adults ages 17-26 who are experiencing a behavioral health issue. The Young Adult Peer Mentor works both individually and as a team to provide advocacy and ongoing support to young adults, assisting them in the areas of employment, independent living/community living support, education and recreation. The Young Adult Peer Mentor also assists young adults in the development of life skills through involvement in various social and peer support groups. A high school diploma and/or college experience is required. Certified Peer Specialist preferred.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provides support and assistance to individuals through weekly meetings, group support and advocacy.
- Works with individuals to set attainable goals.
- Assists individuals with setting objectives.
- Assists individuals in identifying recovery goals, interventions based in consumers’ recovery/life goals.
- Observes and records progress individuals make towards meeting objectives.
- Understands and utilizes specific interventions necessary to assist individuals in meeting their recovery goals.
- Co-leads weekly young adult mentor support group.
- Co-leads young adult social activities and young adult groups when scheduled.
- Maintains involvement in the community.
- Maintains knowledge about the resources that will increase the individual’s involvement in the community.
- Provides outreach to members in the community, i.e. transportation, social activities, etc.
- Attends seminars to keep up-to-date information for employment, benefits, and other peer leadership seminars.
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate in a clear and concise way.
- Keeps up-to-date records on all active individuals.
- Completes all progress notes in a timely manner.
- Meets for weekly supervision as well as attends weekly staff meetings.
- Performs other duties/projects as assigned.
- CPS (Certified Peer Specialist) training is a plus.
Schedule:
Tues 11am-6pm
Wed 12-5pm
Thurs 10am-6pm Some flexibility for occasional evening events, may be necessary.
Required Skills
- Valid Driver’s License, access to your own vehicle and a safe driving record for client transportation
- Successful candidate must have lived experience with mental health or behavioral health
- Excellent communication skills
Required Experience
- A High School Diploma is required. College experience is preferred.
- Must successfully complete the Core Elements of Young Adult Peer Mentoring Training or other peer training program within 6 months of hire.
