  • Responsibilities

    We are currently seeking an Urban Designer to join our growing San Francisco team. As an Urban Designer, you will be responsible for project graphics, content and collaboration on complex urban design and planning projects of all scales for a variety of private, public and institutional clients. As well as mentoring and guiding teams, interfacing with clients and subconsultants and developing measurable metrics and strategies to integrate planning and urban design concepts with physical sites and development programs.

    Under supervision of project manager, senior designer or principal-in-charge:

    • Conducts project due diligence, including mapping physical site opportunities, constraints and reviewing and clearly summarizing local development codes and other relevant regulatory parameters.
    • Performs advanced development calculations to inform site test fits.
    • Develops proposed conceptual plan frameworks for open space, circulation and land use.
    • Utilizes 3D tools for developing building massing and conceptual scenarios.
    • Basic understanding of building typologies for a range of land uses (mixed-use, residential, office, industrial) at a variety of densities.
    • Leads project graphic creation (plans, diagrams, data tables, renderings, etc), creative direction and organization, providing outline and structure for design teams.
    • Responsible for high-quality design documentation including master plan reports, design guidelines and executive level presentation materials.
    • Mentors staff on project delivery, actively promoting a positive team environment and innovative culture.
    • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously, independently or collaboratively.
    • Basic understanding of project contractual obligations to inform prioritization of tasks in meeting client expectations.
    • Assists in preparation of project proposals, including project approach, schedule, scope of work and staffing plans.
    • Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects, starting with early planning and design concepts.

    Required Skills

    • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Rhino required.
    • Proficiency in GIS, Grasshopper and Enscape preferred.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Outlook and Excel required.
    • Proficiency in Affinity or Adobe graphic software and Bluebeam Revu preferred.
    • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to work in team environment.
    • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in urban design, planning or architecture plus 5 to 10 years’ experience; or equivalent in appropriate education and experience required. Master’s degree in urban design or planning may also be required.
    • LEED credential required within 6 months of employment, LEED ND preferred.

    Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location. The reasonably expected salary range for this position is $90,000 to $100,000.
