    NPS Facilities Operations Specialist

    Position Details

    Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our cultural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

    SIP in partnership with the National Park Service and National Capital Regional Office are seeking 2 individuals for an exciting new opportunity with the Facilities, Design and Construction Group supporting parks in the region (greater DC area) with the management and rehabilitation of existing facilities along with the construction of new facilities.

    Position Responsibilities will include:

    • GIS data collection and database management 40%
    • Facilities data collection and input (Building Records, Inspections & maintenance estimates) 40%
    • Construction Project Inspections 20%

    Goals include the production of useful data for NPS as well as valuable learning experiences for interns. Interns will verify existing GIS information, identify and collect missing information, and link GIS data to facility data. By verifying asset data, the FIP (facility investment planning) and project completion process can proceed smoothly. This team will also be assigned as assistant Construction Management Representatives (inspectors) to a construction project to assist with inspections and contract specification adherence.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Ages 18-30 (Up to 35 with veteran status documentation?)
    • Very strong communication skills (writing/editing)
    • Very strong organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently
    • Ability to pass a federal background check
    • Possess a valid driver's license

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Educational of professional experience in EITHER Construction/Engineering/Architecture or GIS

    Benefits:

    • Living allowance $600/per week + $360 housing allowance (equivalent to $24/hour)
    • Segal Education Award upon completion of required hours: $1,956.35
    • Upon graduation, planning fellows who successfully complete their internship are eligible for non-competitive hiring into the NPS
