    As a MAINTENANCE TECH I you will be joining our LABOR DEPARTMENT WITHIN FACILITIES SERVICES. Our team is made up of go-getters who enjoy working hard alongside a team of hardworking individuals with quality and safety in the forefront of their mind. Together our team is responsible for performing various general labor work such as snow removal, graduation, and special event setups, various moves on campus, concrete and asphalt maintenance, and signage. This position may also be asked to fill in for the shop supervisor in their absence by supervising temps, students, and other lower level employees.

     

    As you would expect, this position will also work together with other craftspeople. Our Facilities Service team takes pride in providing excellent customer service and fostering an environment of respect and trust. As you may not expect or may not have experienced in your career, we encourage our team members to keep up with the ever-changing industry by actively encouraging them to advance their skills.  For example, if the person in this position does not have a CDL, we will provide the resources to obtain a CDL. On the same note, the person hired into this position will expand their skills, abilities, and knowledge by learning Filter/ Lube/ Insulation Technician duties so that they may assist that shop when needed. The person hired into this position will also develop a working knowledge of the University of Montana safety policies and procedures; develop a working knowledge of the UM Campus; develop working knowledge to document labor and materials utilizing timesheets, labor cards and the work order system; and develop working knowledge of devices (Tablet, Phone, and Computer) for opening work orders, tracking labor, and other functions of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS.)

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Lifting:   Ground to 60 inches, up to 75 lbs. Ground to 36 inches, up to 100 lbs
    • Carrying:   Front carry up to 120 lbs for 10 feet or less
    • Pushing/Pulling:  Up to 200 lbs of weight (materials and during the use of tools). Push force required 100 lbs sustained, and pull force required 100 lbs sustained
    • Bending, stretching, twisting, or reaching with your body, arms, and/or legs in all directions
    • Repetitive squatting on both even and uneven surfaces
    • Working overhead from various positions (standing, squatting, and on knees)
    • Static forward bending from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools
    • Trunk rotation from a standing position
    • Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder or scaffold
    • Walking various distances throughout the day on even and uneven surfaces, distances up to 1000 feet
    • Use of manual and finger dexterity to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
    • Use of various grip circumferences and strengths as well as static grip positions during the use of various tools (4 1/2" to 5 1/2" circumference needing an average of 50 lbs of grip force) and while manipulating various work materials (maximum 100 lbs)
    • Use of foot controls and hand controls to drive and operate light and heavy machinery

    *Note:  A CDL License is required for operating heavy equipment weighing 26,000 G.V.W. or heavier

    MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • High school diploma (or equivalency)
    • Possess current CDL, or ability to obtain CDL within the 1st year of hire

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience installing fencing
    • Knowledge and experience pouring concrete slabs, retaining walls, foundations, and footings
    • Knowledge and experience installing and or replacing tile
    • Asphalt installation experience
    • Construction demolition experience (Concrete cutting, Jack Hammer)
    • Experience and knowledge of masonry
    • Experience and knowledge to operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment including snow removal equipment, and forklift
    • Knowledge and understanding of equipment and building needs as to the replacement of filters
    • Knowledge and understanding of bearings and proper maintenance of bearings
    • Knowledge and ability to change oil and filters in both air compressors and vacuum pumps
    • Knowledge and ability to check and adjust belt alignment with belts and sheaves
    • Experience to determine belt wear and replacement of belts

    WORK SCHEDULE:                 Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), 12 months/year. Position requires an alternative work schedule due to the nature of the position.

    SALARY:                                $13.375/HR – Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department.
