    Partnership Wild and Scenic Rivers Coastal Resiliency Intern

    Position Details

    Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with the National Park Service are seeking an intern who will research and analyze key factors affecting coastal Wild and Scenic Rivers of the NPS Region 1. Rivers include York (ME); Taunton (MA); Wood-Pawcatuck (RI/CT); Maurice and Great Egg (NJ). The project will research issues and opportunities associated with these coastal rivers through factors including state and federal policy, programs, and resources; local governmental programs and initiatives; Non-Profit Partner programs and initiatives; Wild and Scenic River Council efforts and pilot initiatives; community level initiatives, etc. Pilot initiatives will be identified and documented. A field research component will be incorporated through participation in the summer coastal research program planned for the Great Egg Harbor River. A final written report summarizing findings will be prepared, and a final presentation will be given as a part of the PWSR Speaker Series.

    Position Responsibilities will include:

    · Solicit the input of key local, state and federal partners to develop a detailed scope of work

    · Maintain regular contact and communication with representatives of coastal PWSRs in the research of issues, opportunities, successes and recommendations

    · Conduct research through a variety of means including online/web sites, telephone and in-person interviews

    · Participate as a member of the Great Egg Harbor (NJ) summer coastal resiliency field research team in the collection of baseline data related to coastal resiliency on that river

    · Develop a written summary report to document project findings and recommendations

    · Present project results and findings through presentation at the PWSR lunch speaker series

    Minimum Requirements:

    · Undergraduate degree in a related field

    · You must have received a High School Diploma or GED

    · Applicants must pass criminal background checks for both DOI and AmeriCorps eligibility

    · Must be 18 years or older

    · Must be a US Citizen


    Preferred Qualifications

    · Demonstrated interest in aquatic and/or coastal ecosystems

    · Demonstrated interest in climate resiliency and adaptation

    • Estimate, including assisting with quantity take-offs, subcontractor list management and subcontractor contacts, research on various systems and products, studies and comparisons, document management, and keeping accurate records.
    • Ensure that the estimating process runs smoothly and efficiently, and client expectations are exceeded throughout the duration of the project(s).
    • Prepare quantity take-offs and apply unit pricing for material and labor to establish a value for the work.
    • Prepare qualifications and assumptions for the estimate.
    • Prepare cost comparisons/reconcile with previous estimates.
