    JOB SUMMARY

    The Data Analyst, Int. (Quality Analytics) supports quality reporting and analysis requirements of the Quality Analytics and Population Health departments by developing and designing reports in support of quality programs and initiatives. This includes creating reports from specifications using a multitude of data sources with the purpose of transforming data into information, which informs and enables stakeholders to monitor and report quality and population health metrics. The incumbent serves as a back-up to the Senior Data Analyst, training other analysts within the department, communicating updates and analysis results to stakeholders for medical affairs projects and activities, which may include Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives, Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®), Population Health strategies, Quality Improvement Programs and Pay for Value. The Data Analyst, Int will perform analysis of business needs and data integration within the Business Intelligence application.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Holds responsibility for data management, data integrity, and data analysis activities in the Quality Analytics department.
    • Develops complex informational dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Tableau software.
    • Designs reports from the data warehouse heavily leveraging Tableau and Microsoft (MS) Structured Query Language (SQL) Server.
    • Prepares reports and findings; evaluates reports for accuracy of data, including the application of standardized analysis, and assists in the timely production of reports.
    • Analyzes and makes recommendations to existing system logic difficulties and documentation.
    • Maintains thorough knowledge of CalOptima’s data warehouse and move to Business Intelligence software.
    • Assists in providing feedback to Information Systems (IS) to resolve data integrity issues and to support reporting requirements.
    • Provides technical expertise in analysis to staff, other CalOptima departments, and agencies working in conjunction with CalOptima.
    • Participates in progressively more complex projects and analyses with guidance and/or support from Sr. Data Analysts or the Data Analytics Manager.
    • Other projects and duties as assigned.

     

    KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

    • Meet and maintain established quality and production standards.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the QA staff, other departments (e.g., IS), and various external customers.
    • Work with complex databases: build queries and reports, format reports, export reports, etc.
    • Proven data analysis, data verification, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Work independently and as part of a team, with multiple deadlines.
    • Organize, prioritize tasks, and use time efficiently.
    • Present information in a user-friendly format and be able to clearly analyze and explain content.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
    • Utilize computer and appropriate software (e.g., Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and job specific applications/systems (e.g., MS SQL Server, Tableau, and Access) to produce correspondence, charts, spreadsheets, and/or other information applicable to the position assignment.

     

    EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Data Analytics, Business Administration, Information Systems (Infomatics), or related field required.
    • 2 years of proficient experience in SQL with relevant experience in a Microsoft SQL Server environment with demonstrated knowledge of relational database concepts and file structures required.
    • 3 years of experience in a Managed Care or healthcare organization, specifically with analyzing data and developing/designing reports required.
    • Experience in analytics, Business Intelligence, or data visualization software required, e.g., Tableau, Quest Analytics software.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Data Analytics, Business Administration, Information Systems (Infomatics), or related field preferred.

     

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    • Healthcare data and Managed Care terminology.
    • Data mining and modeling tools and techniques.
    • Medical coding, including ICD9/ICD10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
    • Techniques and methods of data quality assessment and Business Intelligence data integration.
    • Developing and maintaining Tableau dashboards that adapt to changing business needs.
    • Managed Care concepts and HEDIS certified software.
