    Home Is Where The Heart Is Group Home is a residential group home providing care to individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities. We are seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to join our team part-time, with hours that may vary from weekends, overnight (7 PM - 7 AM), and/or some evenings. We are looking for a Direct Support Professionals who demonstrate compassion, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivated, and willingness to develop professionally by applying new knowledge to their work.

    Qualifications:

    Education equivalent to graduation from high school

    Verifiable High school diploma or GED

    At least 18 years of age

    One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in the care, training, habilitation, and development of the mentally retarded, developmentally disabled, physically challenged, or mentally ill children.

    Responsibilities:

    Knowledge of some characteristics and concepts of mental retardation, mental health, health disorders, and related physical conditions and treatment approaches for children.

    Knowledge of simple nursing care, first-aid, behavior management, personal and environmental hygiene.

    Ability to implement and follow the policies and procedures of the department, facility, or service entity.

    Engaging in the care, training, and rehabilitation of physically and mentally retarded clients or mentally ill.

    Providing basic nursing care, personal care, and hygiene.

    Performing established training, care, and programmatic activities.

    Teaching clients eating, bathing, dressing, grooming, and other self-care skills.

    Participating with professional staff in the design and implementation of training and programmatic activities.

    Observing the rights and personal dignity of others.

    Observing, recording, and reporting clients’ behavior, attitude, and physical condition.

    Performing simple math and communicating effectively, both orally and written.

    Maintaining effective working relationships with clients and other employees.

    In order to be employed as a Direct Support Professional, candidates must comply with criminal background screening.
