    Role: Junior Rail Project Engineer

    Summary:

    Project Engineer with a solid foundation in civil engineering and a passion for leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance railway infrastructure. Proficient in both civil engineering principles and the use of various software applications to support data analysis, infrastructure design, and problem-solving. Committed to delivering high-quality solutions that optimize railway operations and safety.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with freight railroad and transit agency clients to assess their infrastructure needs and develop data-driven solutions.
    • Ensure the quality and consistency of data collected from RailPod and other sources, specializing in track geometry, rail profile, clearances, overhead catenary systems, asset identification, LiDAR, and image data, while providing support in interpreting the collected data.
    • Innovate and implement new data analysis processes to address real-world challenges in clearance analysis, overhead catenary assessments, asset management, GIS mapping, track planning, LiDAR data processing, and more.
    • Leverage software tools to streamline data processing, enhance efficiency, and automate analysis procedures.
    • Apply engineering expertise, statistical methods, and research skills to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
    • Generate engineering designs, drawings, and reports based on collected data, adhering to industry standards and requirements.
    • Consistently produce high-quality deliverables within specified deadlines.
    • Perform thorough QA/QC procedures to validate design methodologies and calculations.
    • Conduct hardware and software testing to ensure data readiness for engineering projects.
    • Provide support for RailPod's Shadow Operations, including occasional night and weekend work when needed.
    • Primarily work from home. If based in the greater Boston area, the candidate can work in Boston MA office. Occasional travel for on-site railroad property inspections.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in civil/Mechanical Engineering or related field; relevant work experience in the railroad industry is also considered.
    • Minimum of 2 years' experience in the railroad or related field.
    • Proficient in engineering and GIS software tools, including ArcGIS, Civil 3D, MicroStation, ReCap and/or Vision LiDAR and/or Trimble Sketchup.
    • Familiarity with SQL and programming languages such as Python and VBA.
    • Strong computer skills with proficient use of Excel.
    • Effective written communication skills for conveying complex technical information.
    • Enthusiastic problem solver with a drive for addressing real-world challenges.
    • Solid understanding of 3D measurement, modeling, and visualization concepts.
    • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking abilities, ensuring precise calculations and designs.
    • A proactive learner with the ability to grasp technical concepts and solve practical engineering problems in unstandardized situations.
