The Environment: Unlock Your Potential
Torch.AI is seeking an HR Generalist to support our employees and company through a variety of HR functions, including onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, and employee relations. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive self-starter passionate about creating a positive employee experience.
The HR Generalist will work within Torch.AI’s Business Operations Department. This role will work closely with Torch.AI’s Chief of Staff, Chief Operating Officer, and Finance & Accounting team in building out and supporting company-wide employee lifecycle activities; however, because our Operations team is small, ideal candidates should still be comfortable working and carrying forward projects independently. Most of our employees are located and work from our Kansas City, KS office, although we also have employees distributed across the U.S.

Responsibilities
- Support recruiting and onboarding, including job postings, interview coordination, offer letters, and new hire orientation.
- Administer benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and vendor relations.
- Facilitate employee relations and engagement initiatives; respond to general HR inquiries and escalate as needed.
- Maintain compliance and reporting, including coordination on audits, policy reviews, and documentation related to FMLA, ADA, EEO, and other labor laws.
- Conduct internal HR audits to identify process gaps and recommend improvements.
- Foster company culture through wellness events, policy contributions, and HR-related culture programs.
- Assist with basic candidate management, including scheduling interviews and receptionist support during candidate visits.
What We Value
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources , Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–7 years in an HR generalist, HR coordinator, or similar role.
- Working knowledge of HR practices, employment laws/regulations, and benefits administration.
- Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., Rippling) and O365 tools (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
- Strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive information.
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent written communication (internal and broker/vendor relations).
- Self-starting “doer” / follow-through (i.e., strong organizational and time management skills, does not let projects slip or fall through the cracks).
- Detail-oriented problem solver with a critical-thinking mindset.
- Experience in government contracting or defense-sector HR (not required, nice to have).
- Familiarity with security clearance processes , personnel security, or similar compliance areas (not required, nice to have).
Work Location
This role is based at our headquarters in Leawood, KS.

- Torch.AI offers a 401k plan through John Hancock. While the company does not offer employee matching, we offer 3% profit sharing for all employees who elect to participate in the 401k plan. Profit sharing is calculated based on company performance at the end of each calendar year and distributed to 401k accounts at the start of each calendar year.
