Job Description
Velo Law is a multi-state Creditors’ Rights/Collections law firm, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We are seeking an HR Generalist to support and enhance the organization’s mission of protecting creditors’ rights by preserving financial stability while improving the livelihood of the people within the organizations we serve. The ideal candidate will work closely with all levels of management and the HR team.
The HR Generalist will work alongside the HR team in the following areas:
Management Development and Training.
Performance Management.
Employee Relations.
Benefits Coordination
Payroll Coordination
Other Human Resources policies, programs, and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will be people oriented, and results driven with the ability to work collaboratively and independently to advance key HR initiatives. The HR Generalist will be resourceful, as well as an excellent problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
A successful candidate would actively contribute to and lead through experience in the following areas:
Supporting the team in performing day-to-day HR functions.
Understanding of ESTA, FMLA, Friend of the Court, Workers Compensation, Paid Time Off, Benefit Plans (Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD, Life, HAS, FSA, Dependent Care), 401(k), and other regulations.
Managing and maintaining payroll processing, the time clock system, and personnel databases.
Managing day-to-day benefits operations including enrollments, employee support, vendor coordination, invoice auditing and processing, compliance reporting, and data accuracy across platforms.
Providing education and support to benefit participants regarding plan features, enrollment, and ongoing participation.
Prioritizing tasks, managing multiple responsibilities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ensuring personnel files are properly and securely maintained.
Maintaining a safe and secure working environment.
Ensure security, integrity, compliance, and confidentiality of data.
Aid in maintaining the staff handbook.
Regularly provide support, feedback, and coaching to managers and employees to promote and achieve the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
Prepare reports and analysis of activity, productivity, goal progress, and employee feedback to direct supervisor.
Serve as a resource person for advanced questions and work cooperatively with all staff to coordinate procedures, policies, and support.
Assist management with trouble shooting, coaching, motivating, invoking disciplinary action, and resolving complex issues with staff.
Communicate effectively with the HR team and Administration regarding concerns, potential challenges/issues, and other key human resource matters.
Continually seek and recommend improvement opportunities within the HR function.
All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the ADP platform and Excel worksheets.
Experience filing unemployment responses, FMLA paperwork, Friend of the Court responses, Verification of Employment requests, and required reporting and notifications.
Experience with employee coaching and performance management.
Qualifications:
Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related discipline, or 3+ years of experience in the field of Human Resources.
Computer proficiency including experience using Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Strong problem-solving and follow-up skills must be proactive and take initiative to support administration.
Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions.
Exceptional time management and prioritization skills.
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local employment, wage and salary laws and regulations including the Affordable Care Act, FMLA, ESTA, workers compensation, etc.
Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
Ability to work with a sense of urgency in a deadline-oriented environment.
