About the Job

The candidate needs to be a collaborative leader driven by operational performance improvement in a high mix, low volume manufacturing environment.The Vice President of Operations manages all operations activities including production, purchasing and facility maintenance.The candidate must be forward thinking with regards to capacity planning, long-term manufacturing strategy, capital investment and project execution.

• Lead and facilitate a culture of continuous improvement executing on ideas from across the organization while strengthening the safety culture
• Manage daily operations activities including production, purchasing, capital equipment and tooling investment, shipping and receiving, facility maintenance, cost control, operations analysis and delivery performance
• Improve manufacturing operation with goals of productivity gains, capacity utilization, product quality, on-time delivery performance and resource utilization
• Provide training and leadership in an encouraging, enthusiastic manner to create a positive place to work
• Collaborate cross-functionally focused on aligning strategy to support business priorities
• Coordinate production activities with purchasing, maintenance, engineering, sales and quality
• Establish and maintain production rates and ensure inventory levels are maintained for the proper balance between customer service and maximum turns
• Develop and recommend improvements in plant security and safety procedures
• Manage performance of the Production Manager, Materials Manager, and facility maintenance to ensure on-time delivery performance
• Direct building maintenance, equipment repair and maintenance, MRO purchases, facility expansion and other recommend additions or improvements
• Manage budget spend and production plans for impact to financial performance
• Continuously evaluate the operation to recognize opportunities to reduce complexity, cost and to ensure the operations team is focused on achieving business goals
• Manage the strategic purchasing and materials management decisions to ensure the supply chain is supporting business demand, limiting disruption exposure and driving cost savings with multiple sources thru robust quality control requirements
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business, or related field is required. MBA preferred
• At least 15 years of operations experience in increasingly responsible plant, manufacturing and supply chain leadership roles
• Experience in a high mix, low volume Kanban environment strongly preferred
• Experience in metal products manufacturing with knowledge base in CNC machining, welding, and assembly strongly preferred
• Hands on manufacturing experience in a union labor force environment strongly preferred
• Lean experience and background desirable
• Experience managing multiple sites desirable
• Working knowledge of ERP systems and ability to problem solve
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of team members across the business
• Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
