Job Description
Are you early in your HSE career and eager to learn? Do you bring a fire-in-your-belly mindset - curious, motivated and ready to grow into a well-rounded HSE professional?
The HSE Specialist I position an entry-level role on our HSE team, with a primary focus on environmental, health and safety programs. We’re looking for someone who may be coming from internships, school projects, or a couple years of related experience - someone excited to learn how HSE truly operates in a manufacturing environment.
Even better? This role is open because the current HSE Specialist was promoted internally. Just a real example of how we support development and career growth at Tessenderlo Kerley. We invest in people who show initiative, curiosity and a desire to build something long-term!
Why Join Us?
Grow Your Career – Join a team that promotes from within and actively supports learning, development, and certification pathways.
Learn by Doing – Gain exposure to real HSE programs across multiple chemical manufacturing sites, not just theory.
Be Supported – Work alongside experienced HSE professionals who will coach, mentor and guide you as you grow.
Make an Impact – See how HSE directly supports safe, compliant plant operations and a strong safety culture.
What You’ll Do
✅ Support HSE programs across manufacturing plants, labs, farms, and the corporate office.
✅ Assist with environmental and safety assessments to identify hazards and compliance gaps.
✅ Help manage programs like fertilizer registration, medical monitoring, and safety data sheets (SDS).
✅ Support development of HSE procedures, training materials, and corporate initiatives.
✅ Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
✅ Assist with environmental reporting (Tier II, TRI, hazardous waste, air emissions, etc.).
✅ Collaborate with plant leaders, HR, operations, and engineering teams.
✅ Learn how regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT) apply in real manufacturing environments.
This role is hands-on, collaborative, and designed to build a strong foundation for future growth!
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
✔ Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, environmental health & safety, or a related field
✔ 3 years of experience or relevant internships, co-ops or academic project work
✔ Strong curiosity and motivation - you ask questions and seek to understand the “why”
✔ Willingness to pitch in, take feedback and learn new programs
✔ Interest in environmental and safety programs within manufacturing
✔ Strong communication, organization and follow-through skills
✔ Comfortable working onsite in a corporate office with occasional travel (up to ~20-25%)
Certifications and deep regulatory expertise are not required - we’ll help you build those!
A Role Built for Growth
This position offers a rare opportunity to become a well-rounded HSE professional, gaining exposure to environmental, safety and sustainability programs instead of being siloed early in your career. Over time, this role can grow into higher-level HSE positions, with ownership of key programs and broader responsibility.
If you’re ready to work hard, learn fast, and build a meaningful HSE career - we’d love to meet you!
