    STAFF VETERINARIAN JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Humane Society of Broward County is searching for an enthusiastic and compassionate shelter veterinarian to join our team in sunny south Florida.  HSBC is a 33,000 square foot, an open-admissions shelter that provides homes to over 7000 animals yearly.   We are searching for a veterinarian who wants to make a difference in the lives of shelter animals.  Our vets perform a variety of duties, including routine and special surgeries, medical care of shelter animals, heartworm treatments, and participating in our vaccine clinic.  Our vets work 5 days a week which will include 1-2 weekend days.  

    JOB SUMMARY

    Performs surgeries and heartworm treatments. Helps maintain and manage vaccine clinic procedures and protocols. Provide high quality care to shelter animals, including treatment of various medical conditions. The position is full time at 5 days a week including one to two weekend days as needed.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     • Consults with patrons and veterinarians regarding animals at/or from HSBC as needed.

     • Performs surgical procedures or vaccine clinic duties as scheduled at HSBC

    • Examines outpatients as needed in accordance to HSBC policy.

    • Assists Clinic staff with any questions or concerns pertaining to the intake process.

    • Performs treatments and follow-up of Heartworm positive dogs.

    • Communicates with Medical Director or Clinic Manager about any problems or concerns.

    • Follow and uphold HSBC policies and procedures.

    • Assists with the Foster and Public Foster Programs.

    • Examines fosters and Adoption Ambassador Program animals as needed.

    • Performs upkeep and organization of surgery paperwork, updating medical records, supplies and drugs.

    • Interacts as needed with local vets regarding adopted pets.

    • Work with the Admissions Department on Surrender Prevention cases.

    • Facilitate and coordinate specialty surgeries when needed.

    • Any other duties that are assigned as needed

    • Performs necropsy services as needed

    • Experience or interest in Exotic (primarily rabbits and guinea pigs) medicine and surgery    

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assures that Per-Diem Veterinarians and volunteers are complying with operational personnel policies.

    • Supervises and teaches veterinary students and Veterinarians.

    • Provides leadership to resolve disputes and mediates complaints at the lowest possible level.

    NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Assists Medical Director, Clinic Assistant Manager, Clinic Manager and/or SVP of Operations in other departmental functions and projects.

     • Work in conjunction with the Staff Veterinarians, Medical Director, Clinic Manager, Asst Clinic Manager and SVP of Operations on all issues and projects as they arise.

     • Performs euthanasia as needed in accordance with HSBC policy.

     • Performs other duties as assigned by the Medical Director and/or SVP of Operations.
