    We are seeking an Experienced Dispatcher with a strong background in drayage operations, container movement, crane-supported freight, and local cartage. This position is responsible for coordinating drivers, port/yard activity, heavy-equipment scheduling, and customer communication in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
    This role offers the potential for hybrid work depending on operational needs and performance.

    Key Responsibilities

    Daily Dispatching & Driver Coordination

    • Schedule and dispatch drayage drivers, local cartage drivers, and equipment operators.
    • Assign loads, delivery appointments, port pickups/returns, and yard movements.
    • Monitor driver locations, ETAs, load status, and workflow efficiency throughout the shift.
    • Communicate updates, instructions, and route changes clearly and promptly.

    Port, Terminal & Container Operations

    • Track container availability, Last Free Day (LFD), demurrage risk, holds, and terminal appointment system requirements.
    • Manage chassis assignments, per-diem exposure, and port-specific restrictions.
    • Troubleshoot issues with terminals, container availability, and scheduling.

    Crane-Supported Freight & Heavy Equipment Coordination

    • Coordinate freight moves requiring crane assistance, rigging, oversized loads, or specialized handling.
    • Ensure operators receive accurate load details, safety instructions, and site requirements.
    • Verify equipment needs such as crane size, attachments, rigging tools, and support vehicles.

    Customer Service & Communication

    • Act as the main point of contact for customers regarding load status, scheduling changes, and delivery concerns.
    • Provide proactive updates and resolve issues quickly and professionally.
    • Maintain strong customer relationships through consistent and reliable communication.

    Documentation, Compliance & Systems

    • Maintain accurate dispatch logs, timesheets, port records, and job completion documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), overweight/oversize rules, and internal safety policies.
    • Use dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and port appointment platforms for accurate data entry and coordination.

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years of dispatch experience in drayage, port drayage, intermodal, crane-supported freight, cartage, or heavy-haul logistics.
    • Strong understanding of port operations, container movement, and crane/rigging logistics.
    • Ability to manage high-volume scheduling with time-sensitive priorities.
    • Excellent communication, multitasking, and critical-thinking skills.
    • Proficiency with dispatch software, GPS systems, and port appointment tools (eModal, etc.).
    • Knowledge of DOT, HOS rules, overweight/oversize permit requirements.
