HailTrace delivers targeted, compelling severe weather-focused videos across the country over numerous social media platforms. We are looking for an inspiring and visionary storyteller who can bridge the gap between real-time storm action and our viewers to deliver effective weather information. Position Summary The Digital Meteorologist for HailTrace is responsible for researching, creating, and presenting daily weather forecasts and content across our social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. This position is also a unique opportunity to present long-form live severe storm coverage across the United States in an informative and engaging way. They are also responsible for utilizing creativity and social media savvy to find new ways to execute engaging, relevant weather content across the ever-changing social media landscape. They will work closely with our marketing department to help connect weather content with HailTrace products from time to time. This position requires a high level of comfort with being on camera and potentially becoming the “face of the company”. A passion for severe weather such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes is a must. Responsibilities: Essential Duties and Responsibilities • The Digital Meteorologist will forecast, produce, and present clear and concise live weekday weathercasts, which tell a clear story that connects with viewers. • Maintain acute awareness of severe weather relevant to HailTrace and provide live severe weather coverage and updates as needed. • Gather and analyze relevant weather data and synthesize the information into clear, easy-to-understand graphics that contain accurate meteorological explanations. • Posting on social media consistently each day and during severe weather. • Help develop content for social media including interesting stats, weather explainers, and other specialized content with the marketing department. • Utilize all available resources, including social media, for potential weather content ideas. • Engage with viewers on social media to encourage audience growth. • Must be credible, trustworthy, knowledgeable, confident, and committed. • Presents a well-groomed, neat, professional appearance. • Effective delivery of presentations with clear articulation and enunciation, fluency of delivery, grammar, and pronunciation. • Ability to connect with the viewer with a passionate, engaging personality that creates a natural linkage between presenter and viewers. • Authoritative communication, pronunciation, and knowledge of geography on a national scale. Qualifications: Education, Experience, Certification Requirements • S. in meteorology or equivalent field. • 1-3 years of experience in television or digital weather broadcasting experience. • Strong basic forensic meteorology skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Hands-on WSI (or Baron) weather system knowledge and proficient in weather graphics production. • Must be skilled at posting and optimizing presence on numerous social media channels including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and X (Twitter). • In-depth knowledge of forecasting, particularly severe weather, and a thorough comprehension of numerical prediction models. • Ability to multitask while meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks. • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a rapidly changing environment of a severe weather event. • Must have ability to work a flexible schedule to cover significant severe weather events. Preferred: • Strong ability to communicate complex meteorological conditions clearly and verbally. • Ability to prepare and write general weather forecasts, explanations of scientific meteorological concepts, and articles on various weather topics clearly. • Prior experience in live severe weather coverage preferred. • Possesses strong interpersonal communication skills. Compensation: $45,000 - $65,000 yearly
