Haitian Bridge Alliance, Inc. (HBA) also known as “The BRIDGE” is a 501(c)(3) grassroots nonprofit community organization that advocates for fair and humane immigration policies and provides migrants and immigrants with humanitarian, legal, and social services, with a particular focus on Black migrants, the Haitian community, women and girls, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and survivors of torture and other human rights abuses. HBA works to elevate the issues unique to Black migrants and build solidarity and collective movement toward policy change.

About the Role
The Director of Storytelling is a new position within the rapidly expanding Haitian Bridge Alliance that will spearhead the organization’s arts, culture, and narrative change strategy.
Responsibilities
Create a cross-cutting, trauma-informed storytelling strategy to significantly expand HBA’s overall storytelling capacity
Build and manage partnerships with artists, museums, curators, poets and photographers prioritizing directly impacted individuals
Manage contracted support for content creation (video editors, photographers, artists)
Oversee the HBA’s social media accounts, YouTube channel, and website in line with the HBA’s brand, tone, and visual identity
Work with the HBA department heads to create an organizational content library to centralize all HBA storytelling assets including interviews, graphic illustrations, photography, reports, and testimony
Manage a communications coordinator
Work with the Communications Coordinator to create compelling content that centers migrants from a position of dignity and power, not victimization
Build relationships and pitch journalists for coverage, features, and interviews featuring Black migrants
Write press releases and statements as necessary, oversee the maintenance and expansion of the press list
Work with the Community Center Director and the staff psychologist in San Diego to design and implement an art therapy program for migrants
Manage all logistics related to story gathering, videography, interviewing, and exhibitions at the Community Center
Qualifications / Skills:
English fluency is required; Haitian Kreyol fluency is strongly preferred. French or Spanish is a plus.
At least five years of related work experience in the arts, cultural, communications, production or digital space
Experience working with journalists and the media overall; expertise in understanding on- and off-the-record parameters when setting up interviews with directly impacted people
Commitment to ethical, trauma-informed production, interviewing and overall storytelling; sound judgment
Familiarity with Haitian history, artists, culture bearers, and civically-engaged artists
Ability to juggle multiple projects at once in a fast-paced and often stressful environment
Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Flexibility, patience, and willingness to “roll with the punches” as days can be unpredictable
Commitment to building an anti-racist immigration and asylum system that is based on dignity, community, kindness, empathy and welcoming
