    BUSEY CHAIR OF MUSIC EDUCATION

    WANDA L. BASS SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND EL SISTEMA OKLAHOMA

    The Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University with our partner program El Sistema Oklahoma seek a dynamic visionary leader to prepare future music educators and serve transformative social change in the community.  Tenure-track, rank open. The successful candidate will teach courses in instrumental music education, supervise student teachers, recruit music education majors, and work closely with El Sistema Oklahoma in leading the faculty, creating and delivering professional development, devising and overseeing the implementation of the curriculum, teaching from the podium and overseeing annual data collection. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to participate in the university’s assessment program and in student recruiting and retention efforts for the school and the university, advise students, and will participate in faculty meetings and other university service endeavors. Effective teaching, scholarship and service are required for tenure and promotion.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A PhD in Music Education, secondary school instrumental teaching experience, and a minimum of three years of university teaching experience required. Band specialist and experience with an El Sistema inspired program is preferred. Knowledge and experience in program development, professional development, curriculum design and a strong commitment to the teaching of undergraduate students is expected.

    ABOUT EL SISTEMA OKLAHOMA:

    Launched in September 2013, El Sistema Oklahoma (ESO) is a free, non-profit after-school music program.  There are nearly 240 students ranging from third grade through twelfth grade, who meet Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the school year. Children do not need any prior musical experience and are not required to audition to be a part of the program.  Students receive daily instrument instruction and are placed in one of four orchestras.  Our service focuses on enabling music and learning as a pathway to life-long success.
