    MAJOR FUNCTION:  The Electrical Career/Technical Educator Instructor is a grant-funded position by the Florida Department of Correction (DOC) Gadsden Re-Entry Center (Quincy, FL). The Instructor’s major functions are to teach an appropriate, assigned career/technical education program through the facilitation of a teaching environment (lecture, group, or individual) targeting a diverse population resulting in the earning of appropriate industry recognized certifications.  The Instructor also works with the student and the educational staff to assist students with an academic and career pathways plan.

     

    MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or its equivalent and four years of experience in the vocational being taught; or an Associates or higher degree or having earned 60 credit hours from an accredited educational institution and two years of occupational experience in the vocation being taught.    Experience in the construction industry relative to the design, and/or construction of commercial, institutional and residential buildings. Experience teaching or instructing adult and non-traditional learners in a diversity of subject matter and settings. Candidate must be able to work in non-traditional educational – a state correctional institution. Candidate must be able to pass a DOC background check, which includes fingerprinting.  Additionally the candidate must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) screening. Prefer former teaching experience and a current State of Florida Teacher’s Certificate from a Florida School District, or a Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) Vocational Certificate, and attain or be able to attain a NCCER Instructor Certification and OSHA 10 1926 Card.

     

    SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING:  Knowledge of and experience with construction principles and applications. Knowledge of adult learning to effectively contribute to the development of course curriculum and lessons. Knowledge of teaching adult students and facilitating a rich learning environment for diverse populations. Knowledge of TCC and DOC policies and procedures. Knowledge of Florida Department of Education vocational frameworks. Excellent human relationship skills. Skilled in project management, organization of tasks and responsive follow-through. Ability to use MS Office applications and internet navigation. Basic graphic design experience using MS Word and PowerPoint. Ability to use teaching strategies that meet varying abilities of students. Ability to critically assess situations and make sound judgments. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to communicate course material to students in an effective manner. Ability to communicate effective, verbally and in writing. Ability to interact with other project and DOC staff appropriately. Ability to work independently or as a part of a team, and make independent decisions. Ability to multi-task. Ability to keep accurate & thorough records.
