    MAJOR FUNCTION:  The Virtual Learning Commons Manager is housed within the Learning Commons and will report directly to the Director.  The Virtual Learning Commons Manager provides a positive vision and dynamic leadership for innovative online learning services via online tutoring, the Learning Commons webpage, the Virtual Learning Commons, and Canvas to enhance and support the curriculum, instruction, and student success of TCC students. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

     

    • Collaborates with the Learning Commons departments to support online learning via webinars and the Learning Management System (Canvas). Responsibilities include creating and updating e-learning content, coordinating webinars, online tutoring, and serving as liaison with TCC faculty who create e-learning content. Analyzes data on distance learning activities. Assesses the technology needs of the Learning Commons. Supervises the technology specialist, OPS technology staff and responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating all technology staff.

    • Oversees and manages the technology budget for the Learning Commons. Oversees inventory of the Learning Commons technology, and coordinates its uses and routine maintenance.  Provides data reports to the Director on all online services, usage, and evaluation.  Responsible for training all technology staff to be knowledgeable of applications.  Implements and trains a faster more efficient check-in system for the Learning Commons data collection and reporting.

    • Collaborates with the Learning Commons stakeholders to establish, implement, assess and update unit strategic goals, modes of service delivery, staffing patterns, and the integration of technology and online resources to meet program needs. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new developments in higher education online academic services, resources, and educational technologies. 

    • Serves on the TCC Online Advisory Board and participates in internal and external committees and organizations to promote and enhance the Learning Commons services. Works collaboratively with committees regarding college-wide issues concerning Learning Commons operations to ensure consistent, high quality services and resources across the College. Develops and recommends policies and procedures that support optimal online learning environments.

    • Manages social media accounts for the Learning Commons including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Develops and implements a social media marketing campaign for the Learning Commons to promote services to students, faculty, staff, and the community.  Assists in live streaming test reviews and workshops of the Learning Commons staff as needed.

       

     

    MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: A bachelor’s degree and three years of online learning or instructional experience is required.  The master’s degree is preferred and may substitute for one year of the required experience.  Experience working within a learning assistance environment is also preferred.

     

    SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledgeable and skilled in operating a variety of software applications used in multimedia, courseware development, and distributed learning products. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. In the use of personal computers. In the use of electronic mail and the Internet for educational purposes. In the use of appropriate software applications such as Canvas and related tools, PowerPoint, Camtasia, etc. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. In giving attention to detail and follow-through. In the use of desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and email. Ability to work with users of varying technical expertise. Meet established deadlines. Work effectively independently and as a team member. Monitor, maintain, and updates the TCC website related to virtual learning initiatives as well as other support materials. Maintain records and prepares reports. Assist in the development, production, and evaluation of support materials Learning Commons students in collaboration with departments providing distributed learning delivery technologies. Develop print and online instructional tutorials on the use of the Canvas Learning Management System and other instructional software. Test new Canvas building blocks to ensure that they are working properly for instruction. Work closely with the Multimedia team in assisting faculty with uploading content to the media server. Support Learning Common Specialists in the technical; Handles walk-ins, email, phone, and Office Communicator inquiries.

    KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Knowledge and understanding of the basic principles and practices in the fields of, chemistry, physical science or health physics.
    • Experience using HpGe gamma spectrometer.
    • Knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures applicable to an environmental laboratory.
    • Knowledge of laboratory scientific resource material,laboratory equipment and its care.
    • Experience supervising, training and conducting performance evaluations of laboratory personnel.
    • Demonstrated experience with computer operations, software and peripherals.
    • Knowledge of general rules for safe exposure and handling of chemical and biological hazards.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and supervise.
    • Ability to calibrate, operate, and understand gamma spectra.
    • Ability to perform laboratory sample preparation.
