    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    This position will be part of exciting and forthcoming new product offerings and business avenues! The Energy Storage System Engineer (Residential PTI) will play an instrumental role in the growth of our business in the Residential Energy Storage Systems (RESS) market. Although the position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Orange County (Irvine) of California, it requires up to 20% travel for technology and business engagements. It will report to the Vice President of Products and Technology Innovation or another senior member of management that the president of the company may designate.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Product system requirements definition, behavior, logic & interfaces, considering all disciplines (hardware, software, mechanics, thermal, user interface and more).
    • Write System Requirements and Design documentations.
    • Work closely together with suppliers, internal product managers and engineering (e.g. hardware, software, data science) teams on existing product improvements, new product definition and development.
    • Define the validation plan and make sure the product meets its requirements.
    • Act as primary contact for system-related issues.
    • Conduct system level and device level failure mode engineering analysis (FMEA), validate FMEA results with lab tests, and create system and device trouble-shooting guides for application and customer supporting engineers in collaboration with suppliers and internal engineering teams.
    • Set up test facilities in the lab with internal teams and equipment suppliers, generate lab upgrade proposals, implement lab upgrade plans
    • Assist product managers in creating Market Requirement Document (MRD) and Product Requirement Document (PRD)
    • Own technical and operational documentations, internal and external training, and introduce the RESS products into the US market

    REQUIREMENTS

    • MSc in EE with ~2 years of experience, or BS in EE with 5 years of experience, in residential UPS, PV inverter, Energy storage or similar;
    • 3+ years of proven experience in Power electronics development and testing;
    • ·Familiar with relevant industrial practices, including MODbus, CANbus, GPIP, TCP/IP, USB, RS232, Rule 21, SunSpec, NEC codes, UL, IEC, IEEE and CE, AHJ requirement, utility requirements, etc.;
    • Experience setting up system for automated or manual testing of RESS functionality, use cases and failure modes, using equipment such as PV simulator, grid simulator, load controller, smart appliances, oscilloscopes, function generators, MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, hardware-in-the-loop simulators, etc.;
    • Experience conducting or supervising product testing, either in an in-house lab or a third-party lab, for certification, listing and bankability purposes, and owning the certification and listing process with certification institutions (e.g., UL), listing institutions (e.g., CEC), utilities (e.g., PG&E) and AHJs;
    • Basic programing skills, such as Python, ATE scripts, etc.;
    • Demonstrated ability and interests to apply fundamental electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and physics knowledge to analyze, test and formulate solutions to complex engineering problems;
    • Ability to communicate with customers, engineers, sales teams, and suppliers;
    • Strong sense of ownership on assigned tasks;
    • A team player with good interpersonal skills.
    • Good communication skills and ability to multi-task;
    • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, either nationally or internationally;
    • Has excellent verbal and writing English skills;
    • Must be authorized to work in the US.
