    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    The Application Engineer will be the primary owner of compatibility issues between PV and racking systems and providing pre-sales and after-sales supports to customers. The position will solve any certification and qualification issues and become the main point of contact for expert opinions on compatibility, both internally and externally. Although this position will be based either in Irvine, HQ or the San Francisco, Bay Area, CA, it requires up to 20% traveling. It will report to the Vice President of Products & Technology Innovation or another senior member of management that the president of the company may designate.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    •  A BS DEGREE IN ENGINEERING OR PHYSICAL SCIENCES (INCLUDING MECHANICAL, STRUCTURAL, ELECTRICAL, PHYSICS) with 4 - 6 YEARS of relevant experience, or a MS DEGREE IN ENGINEERING OR PHYSICAL SCIENCES (INCLUDING MECHANICAL, STRUCTURAL, ELECTRICAL, PHYSICS) with 2 - 4 YEARS of relevant experience in the PV or racking industries.
    • Must be an expert and in touch with the state-of-the-art of at least one, and knowledgeable about at least an additional one, of the following areas:
    • PV racking for applications in the residential, C&I, and utility segments
    • Testing, certification, and qualification of PV and racking
    • PV products, manufacturing, and quality
    • Familiarity with US product safety and building codes, as well as PV and racking certification standards
    • Demonstrated successful customer support track records in a fast-paced tech industry
    • Extensive experience working with cross-functional teams and individuals of diverse backgrounds
    • Strong professional integrity and sense of ownership of statements and assignments
    • Self-motivated requires minimum supervisions, and have a proven track record of reliability and work ethic
    • Take assignments with a sense of urgency; deliver solutions and results in a timely manner; can-do mentality, pro-active working attitude, and hands-on approach
    • Good communication skills with customers, management, and internal teams
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Good business acumen; strong sense of technical issue, customer service, and business result relationships
    • Flexible, team-player, attention-to-detail, pro-active, and responsible working attitudes

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    MECHANICAL COMPATIBILITY – 50%

    • Align with the factories and other organizations on technology roadmap, product offers, product features, and product introduction timelines;
    • Own the compatibility efforts between PV modules and racking systems (e.g. racking for residential rooftops, rail-less mounts, commercial rooftops, carports, fixed-tilt ground mounts, trackers) for different application environments (high wind load, high snow load), as well as mounting and grounding devices;
    • Ensure PV modules and racking, mounting, and grounding components have proper certifications (e.g. UL2703) and qualification before their introduction;
    • Be the internal and external contact person for expert advice, compatibility sign-off, and system design assistance on mechanical and structural system design topics;
    • Be the internal expert on racking product, technology, and market trends in the residential, C&I, and utility segments;

    CUSTOMER SUPPORT – 50%

    • Pre-sales application engineering supports to the internal teams and customers, including testing application cases, creating application notes, providing application guidance to customers, and assisting in closing sales deals
    • After-sales application engineering supports internal teams and customers, including assisting customers in their project designs, constructions, commissioning, operations, maintenance, complaints, warranty coverage processing, field troubleshooting, and factory quality improvements
    • Provide product training and promote Hanwha Q CELLS America solutions to customers and the sales team; represent Hanwha Q CELLS America at trade-shows and conferences
    • Stay up to date on PV technologies and industry trends by taking part in technical meetings and industry shows
    • Other duties assigned
