    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The ESS Project & Procurement Manager will work with the Supply Chain Management & Procurement Team and be responsible for leading the technical aspects of the company’s ESS solar business. This position reports to the Senior Director of Corporate Planning or another member of senior management personnel that the President of the company may designate. This position is located in Irvine, California and working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

    TO SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE:

    • You hold 5+ years of experience in PROJECT MANAGEMENT EPC as well as a thorough understanding of the Energy Storage System (ESS) business
    • You hold Procurement experience in ESS
    • You hold a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering, or another related field preferred and/or a combination of education and experience
    • You hold advanced knowledge & technical experience in the RESIDENTIAL & C&I SOLAR ESS INDUSTRY
    • You hold extensive work experience in management and completion of LARGESCALE PROJECTS IN A RESPONSIBLE POSITION (IN PARTICULAR, SOLAR PV PROJECTS)
    • You are a leader and thrive in environments executing new business developments as well as enjoy working in a dynamic, team-oriented setting
    • Demonstrated ability in managing projects: development, planning, installation, and execution a plus
    • Bilingual in the Korean language preferred, but not required
    • Prepared to travel as needed

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM (ESS) PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

    • Drive long-term project management and procurement objectives;
    • Help build the team, establish its vision, and align its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to the strategy of the company;
    • Provide leadership in facilitating the entire procedure from start to finish between sales, supplier contract negotiation, and project management in working with ESS C&I customers
    • Oversee responsibility for all stages of construction projects in tens to hundreds of millions of dollars; 
    • Develop and review project schedules, cost estimation, bill of materials, budgets, scopes of work, standards, and quotes from suppliers; 
    • Must be competent and experienced in contract negotiations
    • Develop work breakdown structures as well as negotiating them with suppliers; 
    • Manage all parties involved (internal and external) and ensure professional project management from system design to construction phase
    • Develop individual project schedules integrating all stakeholders’ tasks, such as but not limited to design, procurement, EPC, and Commissioning; 
    • Report each project’s ongoing, fully-documented communications between other trades, installation teams, and management
    • Always anticipating, looking ahead for barriers which may de-rail project, developing structures or means to resolve unforeseen problems 
    • Accountable for the timely, successful conclusion of all projects 
    • Builds consensus on vendor requirements, including collaboration, recommendation, set negotiation strategy, and facilitating the selection process; 
    • Collaborate with team members when necessary to ensure effective communication and results; 
    • Provide cost estimation, including but not limited to: 
    • Site Due Diligence–Evaluate potential project sites as part of development due diligence 
    • Identify and project costs related to time, materials, and labor 
    • Track actual costs and assess cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services 
    • Cost reporting–Prepare reports regarding the current status of a project to show estimated costs, revenues, and project timeline;

    PROCUREMENT IN ESS:

    • Drive long-term procurement objectives;
    • Help build the procurement team, establish its vision, and align its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to the strategy of the company;
    • Communicate and act as the main point of contact between ESS material supplier and project owner 
    • Manage Balance of Systems (BoS) costs using commodity management approach, and foster collaboration between global procurement teams;
    • Develop BoS cost reduction playbook;
    • Institute vendor qualification through Quality, Delivery and Cost criteria, and monitor on-going performance through quarterly business reviews;
    • Negotiate Subcontractor and Vendor Purchase Order agreements to minimize risk and maintain leverage over optimum supplier performance during project execution and through O&M (Operations & Maintenance) phase;
    • Support teams on supplier escalations with technical disputed items, schedule, revenue-risk, and on-going support services;
    • Manage Purchase Orders/subcontracts and Master Service Agreements;
    • Negotiate MSA (Master Supplier Agreement) disputed items with subcontractors to minimize financial risk as well as maximize project profitability;
    • Support Project Managers in contract negotiations with Vendors & Suppliers;
    • Develop and review Scopes of Work, Bills of Materials, budgets, standards, and quotes from suppliers & vendors;
    • Develop and maintain a working database of all materials, suppliers, products, etc., tracking history of project costs, schedules, and scope (lessons learned);
    • Track and report diversity spending among subcontractors/vendors;
    • Work with and assist Engineering in developing layouts and technical proposals, and developing and maintaining relationships with Suppliers and Vendors;
    • Assist with module sales and product planning;
    • Coordinate and manage one or more internal projects/teams;
    • Collaborate with team members when necessary to ensure effective communication and results;
    • Communicate necessary updates with HQC Headquarters in South Korea; bilingual in Korean preferred
    • Experience in permitting processes with local authorities
    • Other duties as assigned.
