    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    The Project Development Engineer will provide technical guidance during project origination/development phases and support Project Finance during the closing process, for Commercial & Industrial scale and small utility-scale PV only and PV + BESS projects across the United States. This role will have experience in project-level technical due diligence, project development engineering, construction supports, and project risk analysis, and more.

    This position reports to the Director of Energy Solution Business, or other senior management personnel that the Vice President / President of the Company may designate. This position requires flexibility to support travel for multiple projects in various geographical regions, expected to travel a minimum of 50% of the year.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Deliver technical due diligence in support of the Origination/Development team for opportunities at various stages of development both before and after project award.
    • ​Prepare conceptual layouts and electrical single-line diagrams for those opportunities.
    • Perform system energy modeling and energy estimates using tools such as PVsyst to ensure production targets are reasonable for both near term and long-term goals.
    • Update system engineering throughout the project development process to achieve maximum financial outcomes.
    • Carry out technology reviews for PV or BESS equipment and work with manufacturers for acceptability for use in long-term operating assets.
    • Deliver technical leadership in support of the Project Finance team for stakeholders' interests including, but not limited to, investors, site owners, utilities, off-takers, and EPC partners.
    • Visit project sites to assess and collect critical project technical information, such as site structures, electrical drawings, site electricity load data, and costs.
    • Working with the Origination/Development team to provide engineering deliverables for essential development items, which may include preparing preliminary layouts, technology selection, site studies, feasibility studies, preparing interconnection applications, and project cost estimation.
    • Source and manage external consultants, partners, contractors, and vendors, including developing Scope of Work documents, managing RFP process, and controlling scope and schedule to obtain similar deliverables.
    • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned by the Director of Energy Solution Business.

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy engineering science
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in solar PV or PV+BESS engineering
    • Capability to review engineering and technical matters with a commercial perspective
    • Extensive work experience in management and completion of roof-top, carport, and ground-mount project in both distributed generation and utility-scale projects.
    • Comfortable and accustomed to working with various project stakeholders, including investors, EPC partners, developers, consultants, and O&M contractors
    • Experience in permitting processes with local authorities
    • Advanced proficiency in engineering software and energy modeling applications, such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, Geli, and Microsoft office tools
    • Able to cope with dynamic surroundings, team-oriented with a sense of humor
    • Able to develop written/verbal work deliverables that are organized and appropriate to the respective audience
    • The ability to travel up to 50% for multiple projects in various geographical regions
