    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    This position will be a part of exciting and new product offerings and business avenues! The Application Engineer will play an instrumental role in the growth of our business in residential Energy Storage Systems (ESS) markets. Although the position is based in the Boston, Massachusetts area, it requires up to 20% travel for technology and business engagements. Qualified candidates located elsewhere in the US will also be considered if the same travel schedule can be maintained. This position will report to the Vice President of Products & Technology Innovation or another senior member of management that the president of the company may designate.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • A MSc or BSc in electrical physical science or engineering (e.g., electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, materials science, etc.) with 1-3 years of relevant experience in ESS or MLPE, including batteries, battery management systems, inverters, energy management systems and system performance monitoring.
    • Demonstrated successful experience with ESS applications and customer service.
    • Experience in ESS application engineering, technical sales and marketing, and assistance to customers in their project development and installation, field troubleshooting, and warranty remedies.
    • Familiar with relevant codes, standards, regulations, protocols, incentive programs, and industry practices related to residential ESS, including MODbus, CANbus, GPIP, TCP/IP, USB, RS232, Rule 21, SunSpec, NEC codes, UL, IEC, IEEE and CE, AHJ requirement, utility requirements, installation processes, etc.
    • Proficient assimilation and using information from technical documents, such as datasheets, installation and commissioning manuals, technical notes, publications, electrical drawings, codes and standards, AHJ process documents, and national and local incentive programs (e.g., SGIP, ConnectedSolutions, etc.).
    • Knowledge of energy storage technologies and products, module level power electronics products, communication (e.g., gateway), control and data acquisition systems and communications (e.g., API).
    • Flexible team-player with attention-to-detail and responsible working attitude
    • Ability to communicate with a variety of audiences, including customers, engineers, sales reps, and suppliers.
    • Strong sense of ownership on assigned tasks.
    • Can-do mentality, proactive working attitude. and hands-on approach.
    •  Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, either domestically or internationally.
    • Possesses excellent English verbal and writing skills.
    • Must be authorized to work in the US.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Collaborate with product managers and engineers, survey customer product and service preferences (e.g., product features, hardware, software, services, etc.), use cases and competitor landscape.
    • Assist internal hardware, software, and service validation, as well as field and trouble- shooting tests and protocols.
    • Collaborate with internal and external engineering teams on product improvements, developments, new applications, and third-party product integration.
    • Support the development of ESS system designs in accordance with Market
    • Requirement Documents (MRD) and Product Requirement Documents (PRD).
    • Own technical and operational documentation, sales and marketing tools, internal and external training, and introduce the ESS products into the US market.
    • Support technical sales activities, assist customer installations and commissioning, and participate in customer project troubleshooting, either through webinars, remote discussions, or on-site visits.
    • Survey and monitor national and local incentive programs in assigned territories, drive modification of the products to fulfill program requirements with internal and external engineering teams, and complete subscription to these programs before hand-off to sales.
    • Make recommendations and drives to conclude sales, marketing, and service process changes.
    • Own strategic tasks, projects, and initiatives on ESS as assigned.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    •  Hands-on experience with residential ESS, module level power electronics (e.g., micro- inverters, DC optimizers) or residential inverter installation, wiring design, electrical drawing, permitting, performance simulations, monitoring, and reporting gained through working for residential ESS, MLPE or residential inverter companies.
    • Experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and trouble-shooting commercial scale energy storage systems, power electronics systems or board level power electronics and related communication sub-systems.
    • Knowledge and experience with commercial scale ESS.
    • Experience in NPI processes.
    •  Experience in supplier quality management.
    • Additional languages or international work experience is a plus.
