    Job Description

     

    SUMMARY:  The position is to proactively support and enhance the sales activities for Harpak-ULMA’s Automation equipment by helping design automated solutions and developing and managing procedures which ensure timely and accurate development and submission of professional Automation proposals and execution of subsequent orders through delivery. The position works in close coordination with the Sales Team as well as the Automation Product Manager to facilitate clarity and organization of technical and commercial details surrounding the automation sales process from quotation development to delivery.

    TIME UTILIZATION:  This position may travel up to 15% of the time – mostly for technical support in the field or at the factory and occasional trade shows.  Normal business hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm.  Schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate trade show and customer schedules.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

    • Develop and implement processes and procedures that ensure accurate proposals and orders and supports the proper technical and commercial aspects specific to our automation business (i.e., RFQ’s, CAD line lay out drawings, 3D models, etc.).
    • Work closely with the Automation Product Manager to produce comprehensive, detailed quotes for customers that include 3D modeling, full line CAD layout drawings, OEE calculations and accurate delivery dates.
    • Prepare SOPs for quotation and order processes to ensure clarity, accuracy, and timely execution.
    • Work closely with VP of Sales and Automation Product Manager to review all automation RFQ’s to clarify and document technical details prior to commencement of quotation process.
    • Process and follow up on all automation orders whether delivered directly from the factory in Spain or from third party vendors inventory.
    • Support for order management, design concepts and management in the implementation of these.
    • Improve communication with ULMA Packaging Automation (UPA) factory on all technical aspects, help reduce quote turnaround time, and coordinate the delivery of materials required for quotes, FAT’s or product development.
    • Coordinate pricing strategies and updates with Senior Management and Automation Product Manager.
    • Record, document and file all activities for later reference or repetition.
    • Work with third party suppliers such as providers of vision systems, metal detection, check weighing, x-ray equipment, labeling, filling solutions etc. to obtain proposals for integration into complete solution selling quotations.
    • Coordinate the necessary training of the sales team to support and enhance the sales process for optimal efficiency with the goal of having a min. 20% close rate on new sales opportunities developed into formal proposals.
    • Facilitate prompt and accurate transition of information from the Sales Department to the Technical Services Department to help facilitate and efficient and successful installation process and high customer satisfaction.
    • Research non-standard application requests in close coordination with ULMA engineers in Spain.
    • Assist in coordinating customer demonstrations in-house.
    • Collaborate with Sales and Technical Services Departments as well as the ULMA factory to identify and develop technical features and capabilities of ULMA Automation equipment to provide maximum added value to HUP customers.
    • Attend occasional trade shows to stay informed of customer expectations and market developments.
    • Stay current on new applications, capabilities, and new developments for Primary and Secondary Packaging automation.
    • Stay current on new technologies for ULMA Automation equipment and travel to the ULMA factory at least once per year for additional training and facilitation of exchange of know-how and opportunities.
    • Maintain confidentiality of critical or competitive information.
    • Be receptive to on-going coaching and training to further develop professional skill set.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate degree from an accredited educational institution in Mechanical Engineering, business, or other technical area of study; and two to five years related service or support experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.  Mechanical and electrical aptitudes along with automation experience a big plus.

    LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read and interpret documents such as legal documents, AutoCAD/Solidworks drawings, technical descriptions, and specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and write proposals, routine reports and correspondence and respond appropriately to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present technical information to groups of customers or associates of organization.

    MATH ABILITY: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pricing structures, foreign exchange conversions, package geometry, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD along with Word Processing software, Spreadsheet software, Internet software, Contact Management systems and Database software. Must be proficient in the use of the MS Office Suite and Windows platform.

    CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Current valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a passport for travel as required by position.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative assistant.
