    Job Description

     

    Harris County Public Health is looking for a Manager of Mosquito Control (Field Operations) to help lead our Mosquito Control operations!  Under the supervision of the Mosquito Control Division Director, the Manager of the Mosquito Control Field Operations directs all Mosquito Control Field Operations and is responsible for the development, evaluation, and implementation of up-to-date control techniques that are effective, environmentally sound, and economically feasible.

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION

     

    30% Management Duties

    •         Coordinates the activities of subordinates (Entomologist, Inspection Supervisor, Field Supervisor)

    •         Schedules control activities based on surveillance data.

    •         Provides expertise and quality control to subordinate personnel.

    •         Co-Manager of Division’s activities during Director’s absence.

     

    30% Administrative Duties

    •         Submits summaries (written and oral) to the Director.

    •         Prepares the yearly budget for the Mosquito Control Field Operations Branch.

    •         Oversees and plans with concurrence of the Director of the Division’s Test and Evaluation projects.

    •         Oversees the Division’s vehicle purchase, rental, and maintenance program.

     

    35% Professional/Technical Duties

    •         Coordinates with county, city, and state agencies in the prevention and control of mosquito-borne diseases.

    •         Using surveillance date, schedules aerial and ground spray operations to control mosquito-borne diseases.

    •         Assists the Director in outreach to the media, community organizations, professional societies, etc.

     

    5% Other Responsibilities

    •         Other duties as assigned including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

     

    PREFERENCES

     

    •         Master’s degree in Entomology or Biology from an accredited college or university

    •         A current Texas Certified Pesticide Applicator License

    •         10 years’ experience in an organized mosquito control program.

    •         5 years’ experience in a supervisory position.

    •         Intermediate skills with Microsoft Access and Excel

     

    REQUIREMENTS

     

    •         Bachelor’s degree in Entomology or Biology from an accredited college or university

    •         Must acquire a Texas Certified Pesticide Applicator License within one year of employment.

    •         5 years’ experience in an organized mosquito control program.

    •         3 years’ experience in a supervisory position

    •         Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and data entry

    •         Able and willing to work in a variety of extreme weather conditions

    •         Knowledge of disease surveillance and mosquito control procedures.
