The job of a pet groomer is to bathe, brush, trim and provide other grooming services for domestic pets, usually dogs and cats.  A professional pet groomer does much more than just keep our pets looking and smelling nice. A pet groomer can be an important member of a pet's healthcare team by discovering potential problems early, such as ear infections, skin abnormalities or tooth decay.

TYPICAL TASKS: The groomer shall be responsible for, but is not limited to the following:

1. Customer Service

   1. Get to know the client’s story; make your interactions relational, and not transactional.

2. Bathing and Grooming

   1. Shampoos the animals to ensure their coats are clean and smelling fresh

   2. Provides hair cutting services based on the animal’s breed type and client preference

   3. Trims nails in order to make them blunt

   4. Brushes animal’s coat/fur in order to diminish knots and shed loose fur

   5. Cleans ears and check/expresses anal glands for general health care maintenance

3.Overall Body Checks

1. Checks the animal’s whole body in order to be able to alert the clients of any outward signs that the dog may need to be seen by the healthcare team

4.Cleaning and Maintenance

1. Maintains a clean and safe workspace for all clients and employees

5.Operations

1. Handles client relations when needed and provide excellent customer service

2. Is knowledgeable about current grooming practice

3. Effectively operates computer scheduling software

4. Time Management

5. Efficiently provides and completes grooming services within a structured time frame for client convenience.

6. May offer a time guarantee

7. Attends all staff and training meetings, reads company email and newsletter

8. Completes other duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:  In order to be eligible for the groomer position, applicants must adhere to the following:

1. At least 6 months of grooming experience (job shadowing and internships are acceptable)

2. Pass a drug screen test

3. Pass a criminal background check

4. Be able to, on occasion of need, lift at least forty pounds of weight

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Reports to: Owner, Dog House Supervisor and other Management team members

Works most closely with: Bather, Grooming Team and Dog House associates

 Equipment utilized: High Velocity dryers, circular dryers, clippers, blades, etc.

Working condition considerations: On feet walking and standing 95% of working time, noisy working conditions, requires bending, stooping, and lifting

Common hazards: Animal-related hazards such as bites, scratches, zoonotic illness transmission, and working with sharp objects such as scissors
