Our team is hiring a HAZMAT Specialist for Warehouse Support Services for the Navy Medical Readiness Logistics Command (NMRLC) in Williamsburg, VA
The Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Specialist supports government medical logistics operations by managing the identification, handling, storage, documentation, and shipment of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable federal, DoD, and Navy regulations. This role works closely with warehousing, inventory, shipping, and disposal teams to ensure hazardous materials are safely and accurately managed throughout their lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, store, and manage hazardous materials in compliance with applicable regulations and safety requirements
- Prepare hazardous materials for shipment, including completion of Dangerous Goods declarations and related documentation
- Conduct hazardous materials inventory reviews, record updates, and database transactions
- Support hazardous waste determinations, turn-in actions, and disposal coordination as required
- Maintain accurate documentation for hazardous material receipt, storage, issue, shipping, and disposal activities
- Coordinate with supply, inventory, and logistics personnel to support operational requirements
- Operate material handling equipment in support of hazardous material operations
- Support audits, inspections, and quality assurance reviews related to hazardous materials management
Required Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in hazardous materials management supporting warehousing, inventory, supply, or logistics operations
- Demonstrated knowledge of hazardous materials lifecycle management, including storage, handling, shipping, and disposal
- Experience with hazardous materials shipping requirements, including Dangerous Goods documentation
- Working knowledge of DoD, Navy, NAVSUP, DLA, and related hazardous materials regulations and guidance
- Familiarity with automated inventory and record management systems
Required Certifications & Licenses
- OSHA HAZWOPER certification (29 CFR 1910.120)
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to operate material handling equipment, including stand‑up and 4,000–6,000 lb forklifts
Security Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License; All NMRLC contractor employees must be U.S. citizens and maintain a favorable federal suitability determination (typically NACI with SF‑85/SF‑85P) sufficient to obtain and retain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) for installation, system, and facility access. Continued eligibility is required throughout contract performance, and loss of CAC or suitability status may result in removal from the contract.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting medical logistics or government warehouse operations
- Experience with hazardous waste profiling and processing activities
- Knowledge of quality assurance principles related to hazardous material handling
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, move, and position materials consistent with warehouse operations
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment and work in an active warehouse environment
